Pipd's Peeps!

I think I'm in love

I think everyone will just have to wait and see with chick #2 because I agree with it not looking like Marge's chick but it kind of does, and that could be because Reuben.

Reuben's previous owner has explained to me the light-skinned baby. Apparently, some Paint Silkies will hatch with light skin and it will darken as they grow! :D Not that a mix would have been a bad thing, but I was pretty sure I only picked Margie's eggs!

In other news, Baby 3 hatched overnight!! Looks like it missed a dose of white from Reub!

The egg that had internally pipped last night is trying to externally pip now. I can see just a little crack in it! Hoping to make it 4 babies by tonight!! :fl

But for now, I need more sleep. :th

Oh my goodness they are so cute. Fuzzy little fluff bottoms. I love them all.

Three with one on the way that is good to hear. The last might be a late bloomer there. Thanks so much for sharing their pics this is the next best thing to hatching my own.

Aw, no problem! :) I couldn't sleep, so I have better pictures of Baby 3 now, too! :D I'm so excited that I got a dark baby out of this! I wondered if it would happen based on the genetics, and I guess I confirmed it!!

Baby 3 makes up for how pale Baby 2 is--its feet and beak are BLACK!

Look at how sweet this baby's face is!! :love

Mama Margaret is keeping a close watch on all picture taking.

Marge is being a good sport letting the babies have their pictures taken. I think she enjoying showing them off for you. Number 3 is so cute. He has really got the dark silkie look to him. Thanks so much for all the pictures I really enjoy looking at the babies.

Baby 4 is out!! Must have just hatched right before I went to check on them, because it's still pretty wet! :D Mama's being stingy, so no pictures of it yet, but it's white like the first two and its beak color is kind of in between the colors of the other two. :love I've got to get a section of the coop set up so that mama can get her babies out and teach them how to eat and drink!!

Way to go now you have 4 babies. I'm so happy she hatched so many. She is going to need some room to teach those little ones the fine art of scratching and pecking. I love to watch them teach the little ones. I had one silkie mom who was trying to teach the baby how to scratch. It wasn't interested at all. She got so upset she threw herself backwards. My husband told her you just might have a chick that is a slow learner and you have to have patience.

He eventually learned and she was satisfied. Chickens are characters aren't they?

They are such characters! You should have seen all the odd looks Margie was getting from the other girls. Like, "Something's different here... What are those? Is that normal?!" Bunch of silly girls! Reuben hasn't come up to see them yet, can't wait until he does! His reaction ought to be amazing!! :D

Mama's out of the nest, but is still sitting a lot. We ended up having to pull her off the nest because she took a big, giant, nasty poop in it!! :sick So she is sitting on her babies in her little section of the coop, clucking to them and keeping them warm. :love I think Baby 4 is still getting its land legs and that's why she's waiting still. I put a little food next to her and she ate it like she was starved, and the oldest three babies got a mini-lesson in eating. Baby 4 is standing and bobbling around and getting fluffier now, so it shouldn't be long before lessons really begin!

Pictures!! First off, Baby 4! It looks so silvery! :love

Here's a couple shots of what I usually see, though. Babies? What babies?

We're thinking about names now! I want one of them to be Ben, short for either Benjamin or Benjamina depending on if it's a boy or a girl, and one to be Marka, which is Persian for 'chicken' and seems like it could work well for either sex. :) Benjamin was one of the original names I was considering for Reuben, and Marka is a word related to the name Margaret, so I thought that would be fitting for two of them. Gotta decide which, though! And figure out the rest of them, of course!
