This morning, after opening coops and getting everyone fed, I sat down at my computer to check my email and saw that I had missed a couple from my school about a 'New Student Prevention Program'. It seems to me like that name was not well thought out... But anyway it's their mandatory safety and alcohol abuse education course that all new students have to do. I remember doing that type of course at the start of my first degree and it was pretty straightforward and didn't take too long, maybe 30 minutes or so, so I thought I'd just start it up and get it done real quick as it's due by the middle of September.

Three HOURS later, I'm not even half way through the thing yet, and it's full of frustratingly ridiculous questions that I can't even answer like 'how many of the students on your campus do you think consume alcohol?' Like... What? I haven't even been around any other students yet, how would I even guess at that?? So since I have plenty of time to slog through it still, I've had enough of that for one day. I guess there's a reason they called it 'new student prevention', because you have to get through all that junk as a new student or you're cut off until you do.


...Anyway. Back to the chickens!

Runner up is a blurry picture of Peanut Butter peeking through one of the baby feed stations at me innocently over the pellets she'd been noshing away at mere moments before.

Ironically for my single-minded passion for my birds, I'm in pre-dental hygiene at the moment. Assuming I pass anatomy and physiology this semester, I'll be applying to fully get into the dental hygiene program in January.

I was just at the dentist talking to my hygienist. She fills me in on all the dirty deets. I think that is one career I couldn't do. I have the utmost respect for those who can do it. But, I would be one of your better patients as I am adamant about caring for my teeth and always show up for my appointments.

Haha, it did take me a while to land on that as a possible career! I watched several videos of teeth cleanings and I was like, you know what, I think I could handle that. Hopefully it works out!

Heck, we're in the same area, you never know! If your dental office gets a new hygienist in in around 3-4 years from now, ask them if they have chickens

Haha, it did take me a while to land on that as a possible career! I watched several videos of teeth cleanings and I was like, you know what, I think I could handle that. Hopefully it works out!

Heck, we're in the same area, you never know! If your dental office gets a new hygienist in in around 3-4 years from now, ask them if they have chickens

One week to go until classes start. Getting really nervous now!


I guess I should focus on less anxiety-inducing things... Like the chickens. The picture of the day number 70 actually comes from last night when I went out to collect the eggs before coop close-up. The Easter Judy pullet decided she'd found a nice place to perch. It's kind of hard to tell just from the picture, but she's sitting on the end of the branch I'd put through the rooster pen fence for them to sit on.

What can I say, I got some cute pictures while I was out there!

But here's Gus III bawk-awk-awking and spiking his head feathers indignantly in response to me scolding him for being a lazy bum and going to bed early while his girls were still out and about.

And Phoebe wayyy out in the woods still.

Day 71's picture is Lydda, who I think left half of herself up in the dropping trays overnight...

I also tried to take several decent pictures of some of my better Cochin girls because I was thinking of entering BYC's standard-bred chicken show, but they're also in various stages of molt and not looking their best, so I'm not so sure I should now...
