Pipd's Peeps!

Back taxes!! I have a bunch!

First, this is grainy, but Freia and Amaretto were grumping on the perches this day and it amused me, so I had to grab a picture 🤭

View attachment 3979683

This one is also a bit blurry, but here's a view of the crowd at coop opening, barging their way out to the yard :D I love Myrna's face in the upper right 🤭

View attachment 3979689

Perdita was in no mood for pictures that morning

View attachment 3979692

As is tradition, I grabbed a pumpkin for the girls to enjoy. Here's Fifi getting a good start at it:

View attachment 3979694

Later the same day, Gwenyth and Janice were working away at it still:

View attachment 3979699

The next day, Gwenny was still hogging it

View attachment 3979701

Finally, Gwenyth gave someone else a shot, so Ivy and Augusta shared it for a bit:

These two sweeties :love

View attachment 3979711

The following day, the kids finally got a shot at it! :love

View attachment 3979713

...And by the next day, it had been pecked down to just a deflated rind that no one wanted to chew their way through. 🤭

Continuing the autumnal theme of those pictures, here are some birds enjoying the fallen leaves this past week or so. Miss Nora:

Ivy being nosy

View attachment 3979722

Peanut Butter did not want her picture taken that day

View attachment 3979724

Attempt 1 for a picture of Findlay. I love how her stripes contrast with the leaves :love She was looking rather accusingly at me, though 🤭

View attachment 3979725

And attempt number 2. I like the look on her face more and the brightness of the leaves, but this one turned out a bit blurry for some reason. 😩

Some pullets scratching around:

Ottilie and an unnamed pullet:

And lastly, back at the coop, just a couple Dorks being dorks :love This is Lydda and Myrna:

And that's all I have. Hope that makes up for some of my inactivity lately! :D
Oh those silkied Cochins are so cute!

Appreciate the check-in, Nagem! ❤️ I'll go check out your threads. Sounds like you have some interesting projects brewing!

It's been crazy here, so sorry for the silence! Pretty much the weekend after my last post, I caught some kind of nasty respiratory bug that took me out for a few days, and I've been scrambling to catch up on homework ever since :th

I'm just checking in real quick to say hey, I'm alive, just super busy as we enter the last quarter of the semester!
im okay.gif
Thankfully, I only have one test on Monday and one lecture Tuesday morning next week and the rest of my classes are cancelled for Thanksgiving break, so I should finally be able to get things fully caught up and maybe actually be able to... relax a bit??

Anyway, on to the chickens, we did have two losses in the past several weeks. Unfortunately, Janice fell ill around the same time that I did and, while I did what I could considering how knocked out I was, it simply wasn't enough to pull her through. 🙁 Meanwhile, Donna passed away in the middle of last week after showing many signs that her age was catching up to her. At 8 years old, having had children and grandchildren of her own, she had a long, rich life and seemed to have passed away peacefully in her sleep. ❤️

Moving on, some back taxes... but definitely way less than I owe at this point

Some eye close-ups from the other night, just because I was looking at my birds and thinking how pretty their eyes are. :love These three were the only ones that cooperated for good, clear close-ups, though :tongue Sylvie:

Glad you beat the bug that was making you ill. Sorry for the loss of the two birds Janice and Donna.

Having the break should help with catch up time on the homework and studding. Good luck on all the schooling.

Those eyes are awesome. Peanut Butter is very striking in that close up eye picture.

Thank you for all the taxes payed in this post! I love seeing your birds! :love

Glad your better!! Sorry for your loses. And you should be close to Christmas breaks so youll get an even longer break after Thanksgving. Thanks for the pics of your lovely birds!

Hello! It's so quiet in here. :frow

Just wanted to stop by and tell you a funny. So, we all know about Ivy (my silkie mix). She's currently the only one consistently laying. Well, I recently noticed when she is going up the steps to the coop, she starts growling as she slowly ascends. When I first noticed it, there was another hen in the nest box. But, the other day the coop and nest box was empty. She's growling one step at a time. 😂 I hardly ever carry my phone for morning chores - otherwise I would have recorded her.
She cracks me up :lauand except for her broodiness, I just love her!

I have 2 coops currently - one is a recycled very sturdy coop that was made with blood, sweat, and tears (mostly by my husband). The other an Eglu cube that was put together with sweat and cussing (by me). The coop they prefer to lay eggs in is the Eglu. So, hopefully that helps in your visual.

Whelp, hope all is well. TTYL 🥰

Hi everyone! Sorry for dropping off the planet there! The semester had me going a bit crazy there at the end. 😅 The 8-week lab (I think I mentioned that at some point?) was insane, the teacher was so scattered and I barely knew what I was doing through most of it, so I was super stressed for a while. I did get out of there with all A's, though, so the hard work paid off!

I do have family visiting today for the holidays, so I'm just checking in to reply to things real quick. Oh, and here's a couple quick pictures of Rangi sitting on a new perch setup I put together one weekend for all the Cochins that were piling in the corner. I kind of fell out of the habit of taking as many pictures with as busy as I was there, so I don't have much else to share, sorry about that! I have 3 weeks of break to get back into that habit, though. 🙂

Did you use a flash for those close up photos?

I think I used flash on the picture of Peanut Butter, but the other two I'm pretty sure I just held a flashlight up to them and snapped the picture without flash. That's probably why PB looks like she's glowing in her picture. 🤭

Aww, Ivy sounds like such a silly girl 🥰 We're pretty thin on eggs here as well, though a couple of the pullets are starting up now. And Harriet, my Legbar hen. That girl is a workaholic! She only quit laying to molt like a month or two ago and she's already back to it! :th

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

All A's is great!

Nice little pearch you put together, hope the birds think so too.

Oh I might try that some time with the flashlight. It did make her look like a movie star with that glow!

My Halloween littles are out in my main hoopcoop with my most trusted rooster and his flock. I did build them a separate enclosure but kept it top less. They have a heat light on chain for cold nights and they use it. Most days they are searching now.

Pictures!

I really need a shead or small skid barn for my chicken stuff that is no in use. All that was neatly stacked until I needed something, lol.

1000010024.jpg

The Chamois Spitzhauben girls like to stay near them when they are free ranging.

1000010032.jpg

They found out where I go when I leave from outside. I heard a bunch of peeping and thought I had a bunch of wild birds back there and when I looked it was a bunch of chicks watching me through the French doors. I didn't get a picture of tho. All their heads over the bottom lip of the door where it meets the glass.🤣 Very laugh worthy.
