Pipd's Peeps!

Pics
I'm glad Ben is doing better. I hope that was him crowing thats a good sign.

Your going to have empty nest syndrome when the chicks go outside for good. Umru needs a sweater if the temps get to chilly. I had no idea that breed of chicken took so long to feather. I can't spell the name of the kind of chicken she is. :D I think she is going to be the ugly duckling that turns out to be a swan.

We've had rain most of the day and then I think they have predicted more rain for tomorrow. It seems like it always rains on the fourth of July. They will just reshedule the fireworks if it rains.

Have a nice 4th of July and hug the babies for me.

Oh, I'm already feeling the empty nest with them outside all day! All of my attempts to get Crash bonded with the chicks have failed, though, so it looks like I have a house duck to fill that void. Oh, well, at least she's cute.

Anyway, Umru is a Brahma, and I've heard that they are slow to feather, though Umru is even behind on that! I'm also becoming more and more sure that she's a cockerel, sigh. That comb is just getting big and red already, wattles coming in, and there are streaks of red across 'her' face now, along with being HUGE next to all of the other chicks, including Donnie. At least with Flury, though she still has pink wattle patches, doesn't have anything else masculine about her... Ah, I don't know, I do get awfully paranoid about this stuff! Either way, he or she isn't going anywhere, so I'm not too worried. :)

Hope you have a nice 4th, too! Looks like we're going to get rain up here, too, though for now it's just overcast. :fl A lot of the people in our area did fireworks last night, guess we should have as well!

It's rained off and on all day today. I think most people sit their fireworks off last night. It sounded like a war zone out there.

Oh no not Umru surely she's a she and not a he. You ought to post a pic on Bramalot she has so many she could probably tell you male or female. I'm sure she would be happy to give you an answer. Oh well either way you will keep her or him and love her just the same. I think they are a gentle friendly breed even tho they are huge.

I was hoping that Crash would bond with them. I think she has bonded to you and your her mom and her friend and that makes her happy.

Have a nice day and tell Umru he or she is still my favorite.

Happy 4th of July, everyone! A bit of a side track from the chickens, but here are a few pictures from the evening. :D

I also got pictures of the babies earlier, but I'm awfully tired, so I will probably get those uploaded tomorrow. G'night, y'all! :)

Thanks! :D I've had that camera for years, but that was the first time I thought to take firework pictures with it, so I'm happy with how they turned out!

Okay, baby pictures from yesterday! They're hardly babies anymore at 7 weeks old, but... :hit They're still MY babies! Anyway, I would have posted these this morning, but we had to make a run for chicken feed and pine shavings, so I didn't get home to post them until not too long ago. Had to make sure I posted them, though, as soon as I got back! :D Here we go!

Callette the Silver Gray Dorking:

1000

Cazzie the Blue Cochin:

1000

The big man, Donnie the SGD:

1000

Endymion the Easter-egger:

1000

Flury the Splash Cochin, who posed in front of Rooska so that they blended together into one fluffy blob, so I edited this picture just a little bit to make it a little bit clearer where Flury ends and Rooska begins. :p

1000

Izzy the Blue Ameraucana and her usual expression:

1000

Lydda the SGD:

1000

Rooska the Lavender Orpington:

1000

And Umru the Light Brahma, now with even more feathers!:

1000

Cuddle time! I took about a billion pictures of Rooska in my lap, but this was the only one where she was actually looking at the camera and didn't blink!

1000

Lydda was a bit more cooperative. She's such a sweetie. :love

1000

Umru at the feeder. Now that's focus!

1000

This doorway is 2 Cochins wide. By the time these fluffballs are grown up, they'll probably be able to fill the doorway one at a time!

1000

Oh so much fluff. :love Flury:

1000

The Dorking girls, working their innocent looks.

1000

Flury again. She's playing innocent, too, because she made me work for her pictures! :rant

1000

It's a pileup! Izzy, Lydda, and Callette:

1000

Rooska, preening her fluffy rear.

1000

Donnie in the doorway. Check out that comb!!

1000

This is Umru's serious face.

1000

Flury showing off the floofiness again.

1000

And I'll finish off the post with Donnie, the future spokeschicken for FritoLay.

In other news... I have no idea what's going on, but I think we're going to lose Poggy soon. :( She just hasn't been herself lately, and I have no clues to go off of to know how to treat her. She used to be my walking stomach, but now she's just droopy and not eating much. Will keep y'all posted on that. On the plus side, Ben was definitely crowing today, so at least he's doing better.

Gorgeous pics of the teenagers. They have grown to much to call them babies. I love the pic of Donnie is the frito box. That is too cute. I think there is still hope that Umru is a girl. A big girl but I don't see to much of a comb there. I'm no expert on that breed but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she is a she.

Glad to hear Ben is crowing and he must be feeling better. Sorry to hear about Poggy. I think this heat is hard on them. Our humidity is so bad too with all the rain we've had.

Are the teenagers in the coop now full time? It doesn't seem possible. Time seems to fly by.

Thanks so much for sharing their pics their beautiful I really enjoy looking at them. Have a great day.

But they're still babies to me! :tongue Yeah, I guess they are getting a bit big to be babies... SIGH.

They're not outside overnight yet. I was thinking of putting them out overnight this week, but then it occurred to me that they probably would have been traumatized with all the fireworks going off, so... It'll happen soon. Possibly tonight, since the fireworks have finally settled down in the area. I usually have my chicks sleeping outside overnight by 8 weeks old, so we still have until Monday. And then my room will be so, so empty. :hit

It is super humid today, ugh. Hope it clears away. Poggy seems a little brighter this morning, but she's still so sluggish. She was pecking a bit though... Fingers crossed for her.

Yesterday the fan went out in the coop. I thought the Phyllis the polish hen was going to have a fit. She wants her fan.

I'm glad Poggy is feeling a little better. What type of chicken is she? If it wouldn't be to much trouble can you make a list of all your chickens names and type of chicken they are? I would love to see the list and how did Poggy get her name.

Yep empty nest syndrome but you still have Crash. She keeps you company I'm sure. I love Crash she is so cute.

Have a great day we are getting more rain. The mud was just drying up.

Haha, poor Phyllis! Maybe you should install an air conditioner in your coop, that would make Phyllis happy. That, and a frozen yogurt lounge. Maybe even a mealworm bar, too... :D

No trouble at all--in fact, it's already done! All of my birds (except the Silkie fuzzies and the babies, err teenagers) are on this page: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/pipdzipdnreadytogos-member-page I've been thinking of doing a big revamp on it and maybe moving it to a new page, but for now, it's all there. :)

As for Poggy, she's a Speckled Sussex hen. She got her name because I called her 'Pip' before I had officially named her, and I wanted an '-ip' name for her so that it sort of had the same feel to it. Well, after a lot of searching, I came across the word, 'pogonip,' which is a weather condition in which an icy fog of frozen particles forms in the air. I thought it was kind of fitting for a spotted bird, so I went with it. I ended up calling her Poggy, though, short for Pogonip.

This is her when she was feeling better. Her comb and wattles are a lot more reduced now, and she walks around with her tail down and her feathers fluffed out, poor girl. :(

EDITING TO ADD: The babies are outside right now. Their first night out! I'm so nervous, I don't know if I can sleep! My babies!! :hit

Phyllis would love an air conditioner I'm sure. She stays in the coop all the time with a bantam cochan roo. They don't get along with Bubba the main roo.

I looked threw all your pics and descriptions of your chickens. Thats really nice to have that. You have some beautiful chickens and such a variety.

Let me know how the babies did in the coop last night. I hope they sang their sleepy song.

I hope Umru found a nice fluffy one to cuddle up too.
