Pipd's Peeps!

Pics
He does look like a Roscoe. :D it fits him perfectly. I'm sure you will come up with some names or if you wait a while they might even tell you their names. Just kidding. ;)

Mary Jane the guinea laid her first egg. I was collecting eggs today and found three of hers. I'm going to blow it out and keep it and put her name on it. She is 4 and one half months old now.

Congrats! :D I just raced to finish my chores this morning so I could come in and post that Indigo is nest shopping this morning!! My little Indigo is all grown up..! :hit

Also thought I would add that I sat with the larger Silkied Cochin pullet for a few minutes this morning and talked to her about her name. She and I both seemed to agree on Donna for her. :love Actually, I talked to her about her name, and she just peeped with impatience because she was ready to have breakfast.

Anyway, reintroducing Donna!

Editing to add, AND the black cockerel started crowing this morning! What is going on over here?!

Edit 2: False alarm on Indigo, I guess she was just checking out the available real estate. :p

I'm glad Indigo isn't ready to lay yet. I'm not ready for them to grow up it's to early.

Donna is a cute name for her and if she agrees to it that's even better. It sounds like she just wanted to get named so she could wolf her breakfast down. Oh no not another crower.

You already knew he was a boy so it's not a surprise but they seem to want to grow up way to fast. He needs to put that crow away for another couple of months.

Have you made up your mind on Umru yet? Is he a rooster. I think you seen it coming alot sooner then I did. I just kept wishing for a girl.

Thanks for the update and the pics. I love looking at the pics.

Ah, I know, it seemed so early for her! Her mom didn't lay until she was 2 months older than Indigo is now (Indi is 5 months old, Marge laid her first egg at 7 months).

Umru is definitely a boy, no question. Yes, I had my suspicions for a long time, but after everything that happened with him and Don, there was no denying it anymore. :/ So I won't have my Brahma hen this year.

And yep, I knew the black cockerel was a boy, it just seemed like everyone was trying to grow up all of the sudden this morning! He crows like a seasoned professional, but the person I bought them from had mentioned that they weren't crowing yet, so all I gotta say is he's got talent!

Speaking of him, I decided on his name now, too! It was a combination of a nickname that I thought fit him well and a full name that goes with the set of them, looking at when we got them.

Reintroducing August, AKA Gus!

I am losing my mind over picking the little pullet's name at this point! I thought I liked Penelope (Penny for short), but then I remembered I had a Guinea pig named Penny and that has me put off that name. I threw around the idea of Persephone, but that just didn't seem to fit her. I'm leaning toward Cordelia now, but not sure. I was calling her Cordelia while I was out there with them, but it didn't click just right like Roscoe did with his name. I don't know, I'll sleep on it like I did with Donna.

Anyway, I took some pictures of them while I was out there with them. I can't get over how sweet they are! :love

Gussy-Gus:

Donna. This was the best I could get of her standing--she is the hardest bird to get to pose, I swear!

Roscoe:

Cordelia? Penny? Err, well, the small pullet:

They are always piling on top of each other, which makes picture taking a lot harder! Here is the small pullet coming up for air from a silkied Cochin pile.

Gus flapping out his wings!

A serious face from Donna. I'm not sure she was enjoying the photo shoot...

The three reds love to perch on the lip of their cage. Gus is not as much of a fan, but he's bigger, so that might have something to do with it. Left to right, this is Donna, Roscoe, and the small pullet, with Gus in the background:

The small pullet again, this time on her own:

Donna posing a bit better while perched:

I think I've settled on Cordelia. I do rather like Millie and Nutmeg, though, so I'll have to file those away for the next ones I have to name. ;)

Anyway, finally, reintroducing Cordelia! :love

I also just wanted to say, as a warning, that we're officially in the last week of summer break. Classes start for me on the 22nd. Boo! So after this week, I will likely not be posting nearly as much. As such, I'm going to start taking monthly pictures of the babies rather than weekly, meaning rather than take their pictures on Mondays, I'll be taking pictures of them on the 16th of every month, since they were hatched on May 16. I will continue to post things as they happen, such as if Indigo decides to lay her egg, the quarantine period of the silkied Cochins, and the continued work on the covered porch (we have all the supplies now, so we're going to try and finish it this week :fl but if we don't, we'll be working on it on weekends probably). So, just thought I'd let y'all know that this is likely the last week I'll be posting as much as I have been lately.

Cordelia is a sweet name for a sweet little girl. Perfect.

So now you have August, Donna, Cordelia and Roscoe. I'm trying to keep them all straight here. I loved the pic of the three of them perching on top of the cage. Cordelia looked like she was trying to smile in that pic. Their all so precious

I'm going to miss you when you back to school. A monthly pic is fine I know you will be busy with school and all. This has been a fast summer and I'm looking forward to fall. It's been so hot here you really couldn't enjoy getting out. The mosquitos will eat you up here if you go out after dark. I've never seen them so bad. If I stay out to long I have to take a couple of benydryl to stop itching. I've never been like that before.

Enjoy your day and I hope you can take pics as you update the porch if you have time. That's going to be so nice when you get finished.

I have at least 500 names on a list......
Cute name!
Awww, to bad!oh well!

WOW, that's a lot of names! I'm part of a baby name forum that has a name database, so I usually search through there when I'm stuck for names.

Aw, shucks! :D I'm going to miss being around here, too!

We had tons and tons of rain up here last year and it was so miserable. Sorry you're going through that! :/ Stay safe with those mosquitoes out there, the disease carrying vermin! :tongue

YES IT IS!

My Polish hen passed away and I found her this morning in the coop. Her name was Phyllis and I'm really not for sure of her age but my guess would be 8-10 years old. In her later years she stayed in the coop with Coach all day a bantam roo. She was a bit of a grouch to the younger hens and always controlled her food bowl. No one was allowed to eat with her except for Coach. I feel like I except it then I open the grit container and there is her stash of raisins I keep for her. I busted out in tears. Coach was eatting and he was calling for Phyllis. They were always togeather. RIP Phyllis your going to be missed.
