Ah, I know, it seemed so early for her! Her mom didn't lay until she was 2 months older than Indigo is now (Indi is 5 months old, Marge laid her first egg at 7 months).
Umru is definitely a boy, no question. Yes, I had my suspicions for a long time, but after everything that happened with him and Don, there was no denying it anymore. :/ So I won't have my Brahma hen this year.
And yep, I knew the black cockerel was a boy, it just seemed like everyone was trying to grow up all of the sudden this morning! He crows like a seasoned professional, but the person I bought them from had mentioned that they weren't crowing yet, so all I gotta say is he's got talent!
Speaking of him, I decided on his name now, too! It was a combination of a nickname that I thought fit him well and a full name that goes with the set of them, looking at when we got them.
Reintroducing August, AKA Gus!
I am losing my mind over picking the little pullet's name at this point! I thought I liked Penelope (Penny for short), but then I remembered I had a Guinea pig named Penny and that has me put off that name. I threw around the idea of Persephone, but that just didn't seem to fit her. I'm leaning toward Cordelia now, but not sure. I was calling her Cordelia while I was out there with them, but it didn't click just right like Roscoe did with his name. I don't know, I'll sleep on it like I did with Donna.
Anyway, I took some pictures of them while I was out there with them. I can't get over how sweet they are!
Gussy-Gus:
Donna. This was the best I could get of her standing--she is the hardest bird to get to pose, I swear!
Roscoe:
Cordelia? Penny? Err, well, the small pullet:
They are always piling on top of each other, which makes picture taking a lot harder! Here is the small pullet coming up for air from a silkied Cochin pile.
Gus flapping out his wings!
A serious face from Donna. I'm not sure she was enjoying the photo shoot...
The three reds love to perch on the lip of their cage. Gus is not as much of a fan, but he's bigger, so that might have something to do with it. Left to right, this is Donna, Roscoe, and the small pullet, with Gus in the background:
The small pullet again, this time on her own:
