It won't be long now before she lays. Let us know what color she lays. I would love to have some blue eggs. I have 2 that lay green and on that lays a tan color.

Cool!one i of mine is laying, I can't tell who tho!i sware it's Acorn.Izzy(Isadora)is squatting for me...............I don't think she has layed tho.

No eggs from Endymion yet, but Umru FINALLY started crowing yesterday! I thought I heard a new crow over the monitor yesterday morning, but he stopped before I got out there. I had class early this morning, so it was my sister that confirmed he was crowing. :/ Anyway, it only took him about 5 1/2 months to get around to it.

Sorry for the short posts lately, too. It's been a bit crazy with classes and I've been spending less time online and more time with the girls or playing my DS to decompress after working my butt off. :th Lots of homework to be done this weekend, and I also have a couple tests coming up soon. Ugh! The week of Thanksgiving (which is 3 weeks away, but who's counting), I have Wednesday through the weekend off of classes. I am SOOO looking forward to that!

Umru is really a late bloomer isn't he? It took him forever to get his feathers and he is finally crowing. I still haven't forgiven him for what he did to Danny but I should I know.

Thats great you get some extra days off for Thanksgiving. I can't believe it's almost here. The older I get the more time is flying by.

Goldie is doing much better. She is eatting like a horse. Her balance is so much better no more falling on her face. She is taking some normal steps, not a lot but a few. I have been putting her in the turtle pen for a while during the day and she has been moving around in it.

How is Elly doing? It's great that she moved out with the other chickens. I hope someday Goldie will be able to join her flock.

Have a great day and good luck with your tests.

Good luck with your tests and homework! I have quite a few coming up as well. And haha I agree, Thanksgiving break cannot come soon enough! Playing DS is a great stress relief! (maybe I'm just saying that because I'm a video game nerd though

). And wow 5 1/2 months is quite old to mature, huh? Looking forward to your next big post. Have a wonderful week.

Good to hear Goldie is doing better, Pattyhen.

Glad Goldie is improving! Elly's doing great, too! She's already back in the flock and regaining weight like mad! :) Being a real love, too! She's been more focused on food than anything else for a long time because she lost a lot of weight while getting over her crop issues, but she's started coming to me for cuddles again. :love Sweetheart.

Good luck to you, too! This is the time of the semester where everything seems to pile up all of the sudden. :th Come on, Thanksgiving!

Some sad news today. I noticed Ani Wyandotte wasn't quite herself yesterday and she was looking a hint dark, though it was hard to tell for sure because she has molted so her comb is shrunk down and off-color anyway. I checked her over and noticed a slight click in her lungs like Cordelia and Donna have, so I decided to start treating her for respiratory as well. This morning, she fell off her perch and just laid where she was in her bedding. When I picked her up to help her out, I noticed her abdomen has gotten really squishy just overnight. I think her heart is failing. :( So I made her comfortable in my room, and we'll see what happens.

EDIT: She started seizing right after I posted this and had been making odd vocalizations and struggling to stay balanced while laying on the ground. She passed away about 30 minutes ago while I was there with her, stroking her feathers. I felt so bad that I couldn't do anything. She kept looking at me and her eyes had so much life left in them... I wish I could have fixed her so she could live longer. All said, it did appear to be heart failure, and so there was nothing to be done for her.

to you. I know she had a wonderful life with you. RIP Ani you will be missed.

Thanks, y'all. I'm not so much blaming myself as just feeling helpless about the whole thing. I've been there with birds before when they've passed, and usually they look so tired or sickly. I guess what struck me so much with Ani was that her eyes looked so full of life still, like she would be out doing her thing if only her darned heart was still working. She kept looking up at me, and all I could do was tell her how sorry I was that I couldn't help her... It was pretty awful. :(

So, in other news, Endymion might have laid her first egg today and, well, darn it all, it's not blue or green! I say might because, since I wasn't here all day, I'm not honestly sure. It doesn't look right for any of the Silkie eggs, and it's too small for anyone else who could be laying, though I suppose one of the Sebrights could have come back into lay. I'm going to try the food coloring trick on her starting tomorrow and see if I can confirm whether it's hers.

Anyway, here it is, next to a normal-sized egg from Mabel:

And a comparison to the Silkie girls' eggs. Not quite right for any of them... The picture doesn't show it well, but it has white speckles on it, whereas Margie's egg is solidly colored.

Sigh... At least she's pretty.

EDIT: False alarm--it was a Margie egg after all. Marge laid an egg identical to it today. So, back to hoping for blue or green for Endymion. :fl
