Nora's getting her sass back, that's goodShe's doing great! I haven't seen any signs of anyone picking on her or anything, and I even saw her sass one of the other birds a couple days ago.A bit of the scabbing closer to her eye and ear has started falling off, so her face is looking a bit more normal as well. I'll see about getting updated pictures of her face today to show her progress.

I did some evaluating on my Cochin pullets yesterday and the day before, and I took pictures of them while I did. Nora was among them, of course. I didn't get any pictures of her good side, but here is the injury side, looking better still than last time! 
She was named by a friend.

As far as evaluation goes, she's a bit young yet to fully evaluate, I think, but she has a lot of potential. So it's possible Nora will be among my breeders for the year come next month.

Those of you newer to the thread probably won't have seen the post that earned Duckling her name. Back in the summertime, when she was still a scrawny little pullet, she squeezed her way through the fence into the pen that my duck, Crash, lives in and fell into her swimming pool. Fortunately, the water was only chest deep for her at the time, so she did not drown, but she was stuck in there for a while, likely hours, and was very, very chilled when I found her. I honestly did not think she would pull through. But, a night in the house being pampered and warmed up, and Duckling was back to her old self.

And these pullets are all most likely going to be kept as well, but are not yet named. Plus there are several more pullets that are younger so I didn't bother grabbing them to evaluate or take pictures, but may or may not be kept... I've got a lot of names to figure out still

. I think I remember Duckling! Nora is looking so good, I would not have guessed that I was looking at her "bad" side, it looks so much better!

What's your minimum age for adding a bird to the breeding programme?
It's hard to put into words how good that feels, you know? Granted, last year was year 1 of me actually breeding them, so most of the credit for that goes to the farm I got my breeding stock from, but still!

I think this is my favorite, so beautiful! This is definitely a Big Booty Judy right there. Now you have me questioning why I'm raising silkies and not silkied cochins

I'm also really happy at how well Nora is getting along out there! You can probably tell by the look on her face in that picture, but she was once again not pleased with me for picking her up without her permission. 
Nora is definitely a diva and you must have her permission to even look at herAww, thank you! I get such a sense of pride seeing how well they're growing out. These are the birds that I produced, through choices I made in birds to pair up last year.
Technically they should be like 18 months old or so before breeding, old enough that they've really filled out and any glaring flaws would have become evident for me to avoid. However, I'm still working on building up my breeding pens, so I bred younger birds last year and will be as well for this year and possibly next. I'm finding that they go through an awkward phase where they're hard to judge until around 9-10 months of age, so that's probably going to be my minimum age for the time being.
They are, I really love them!

once I get my breeding plans figured out, I might just need to buy some from you next year 
well, I tried, now it seems we'll be adding the Ameraucana bantams and D'uccles to the mix. I mean, not that I mind. So, maybe he won't notice if I slip a few silkied cochins in there
