Pipd's Peeps!

Sigh the neighbor let their dog out off leash even tho they have fence damage! Now I've lost more chickens! I had to kill my polish pullet because the damage was to grate to fix!

Damage is all the way in the back so I'm hitting TSC and getting electric fence posts and wire and a hevyist hitting electric fence charger I can that is solar. Or if it happens again I'm killing a dog. I'm angry numbe right now.

:barnie:he:mad::hit
So disheartening. :hugs

My in-laws dogs came down once and frightened my first set of chickens pretty bad. I was so mad. But, more mad at the people because dogs run on instinct. Did you happen to talk to the neighbors?

My backyard neighbor was sitting on the dog till my other side neighbor got a harness and leash on it while I was working on putting remaining chickens up with my brother. Only the grandmother and kids where home. They took the dog back over and I guess inside not sure. Neighbor from the left that helped harness the dog talked with neighbor on the right of me(don't have them on messenger) they do have someone set up to fix the fence but it's after a hurricane so it may take time. So I'm hitting TSC for solar electric fence charger, wire and post/stakes. Chickens will not be out till I'm sure it works. I'm mad and angry not just because I lost birds. Good dog ownership means knowing what you're animal is doing. If the fence is down he should only go out with supervision on a leash! I nearly had a dog destroyed because I made that mistake and if it had killed one of my cats it may have ended up dead.

I'm not going to as for any recompense for the chickens. I will replace them this next spring when I replace the ones my mistake took from me.

On a better note I have sold my first fertile eggs at $1 an egg to someone with a broody a town over.

I have 3 dogs of my own. I agree with your statement about good dog ownership. I don't have a fenced yard. So we go out with our dogs all the time. We never leave them on their own. But, I hear lots of people that just let the dog out and then see them post about their lost dog or what their dog did when they let them out.
Also, just a pet peeve of mine. But, many animal shelters require a fenced yard. So, that leaves me out from rescuing a dog. As well, one of my dogs could easily scale a 6' fence - if we had one. 😧 She jumps up at the utility room door to look out the half moon window at the top whenever we are in the garage and she's in the house.

Which eggs did they want for their broody?

The Ameraucana. Sence it's a test run and I haven't cleaned out the eggs from the storm I did the $1 an egg deal.

Our dog is outside all day, inside at night. She's a runner so we have a wireless fence system, it works great until the power goes out, which thankfully doesn't happen often here. We got her from the shelter when she. Was about a year old, thankfully she does well with the chickens. She's only gone after our mean rooster we had when he'd attack me.

It never ceases to amaze me at how thoughtless people can about their animals and actions. I'm so sorry for your losses on top of the storm losses @NagemTX

Here's my poor Olive girl. I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere with this abcess yet. I just created a thread to see if anyone has other suggestions, but maybe I will have to take her to the vet. I don't even know if vets around here see chickens. 😭

So, me and my brother have a plan for pens. We are going to finish out what I have material for then start having sand hauled in on the left side of the yard and get chain link fencing company to build out eight 9x20 pens that are 6ft tall and have tops. No more not being prepared. Also going to setup the ridiculous electric fence as well. Also getting a shed that's 10x16 for chicken stuff and turning the one heavy duty hoopcoop into a chick hatching and growing shed.

Will be useing the small backyard for the grow outs as well.
