Pipd's Peeps!

...On another topic :duc

Picture of the day 41! I couldn't decide which was better, so it's another double. From first thing this morning, the co-mamas, Inara and Morena, and their babies getting breakfast. :love

Does that mean you'll let her hatch :D ?

As much as I'd really like to, I don't think it's a good idea right now. :hmm If she actually lets me get eggs from her next year to hatch, then maybe we'll give it a shot next summer :fl

Have you ever had any co-mama this long?

Super adorable!

I've actually never had any co-mamas before, so this is all new territory for me! They did have just that one hiccup when the peeps were about a week old, but they've been doing wonderfully every since, and the babies are almost 5 weeks old now :love

Picture of the day 42! It's Ganymede! She's such a sketchy little bird with people that I feel like I have to take any opportunity I get to get a good picture of her. 🤭

Speaking of crazy Silkie mixes, Crazy Maizie, how's your little mix doing? Any more escapades to speak of?

Runners up, here's Buck this morning at breakfast. It's hard getting a place at the table when you've got six sassy hens all wrestling with each other to get there first. 🤭

And, some more co-mama cuteness :love Morena, Inara, and the babies all getting a quick drink together this morning.

Love, love, love all of this.

Since the one little one has such a red comb, do you think it's a cockerel? Or too early with this breed?

I was just going to comment that Gannymede is very similar looking to Ivy.

Ivy is always doing something. She's very independent. Growls at others if they are interrupting her egg laying or if she wants to eat and they are in her way. 😁 I'd take another silkie mix for sure, but I'm afraid she might try to go broody since she's already got that growl perfected.

Attaching a Pic of the eave area where she sometimes goes to lay an egg along with the oegbs. Though lately she's been choosing a regular nesting box. Since there are bound to be eggs up there, I have to get a ladder out at least once a week to gather them. I don't want any rotting eggs or broodies up there.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that one is a cockerel and the other one is a pullet. Cochin bantams tend to be pretty straightforward when it comes to sexing them at this age, very few of them have ever been questionable in my experience with them. 🙂

She's so pretty, but oh my goodness, what a crazy bird!! I wish that I could say I'd never heard of chickens laying up in the eaves like that, but I recall reading about someone going out and having chicks rain down on them from a similar situation :th Thank goodness my lunatics don't have anywhere like that to hide a nest!

Ganymede definitely goes broody at least once a year. Comes from her Silkie side, I think. Hopefully if Ivy ends up going broody she at least is easy for you to break of it like Ganymede tends to be. :fl

Someone mentioned silkie mixes!?! She's not laying yet but with that no comb I'm thinking she may be from an EE hen.

Aww, she looks sweet! I'd agree, that looks like a potential EE mix. Hopefully she lays you some pretty eggs! :D Ganymede is an EE mix as well, but she lays these sort of grayish-toned eggs, so not the prettiest even if they are a rather interesting color for a chicken egg.

Oh my gosh, that would be hilarious and scary - chicks falling from above.

Speaking of falling from above - sometimes I get bombed with a poo from the oegbs if they are on the rafters and I'm not paying attention. I think they do it on purpose. 🤣
