My sweet broody Betty(bantam cochin) has been sitting on her eggs faithfully. Late yesterday one pipped.

I know I should leave her alone. But I couldn't resist. I picked up the egg to look and listen. Oh my! There was the sweetest peeping inside.

I went out early this morning and there is a second egg pipped. Yes I picked it up and it is peeping too! I've never been around chicks hatching. I wish I could sit in the coop and watch.

I have to resist. Betty will be a great momma. I need to let her do what comes naturally.

But I'm gonna be a Grandma!

I hatched my own this year too! I was so amazed at how worried and attached I had become to an egg! LOL It truly is amazing that a life can form inside an egg with out being attached to it mama. And to imagine being stuffed in an egg in those horrible positions!!!! Just don't worry about how they begin to sleep in all of those strange and scary positions when hatched. I thought all of mine had died! Then they all jumped up and stared at me like I was crazy for shaking the brooder and yelling. LOL Congrats again. Enjoy!!!

Good Luck and
God Bless!

Ohhhhhhh, don't I know exactly how you feel! My first GrandChick is already 9 weeks old and running with the Big Chickens like a Big Girl!

Only one chick hatched from broody Buffy's clutch of stolen eggs (she sat on 3, then 5.... and only one was one of HER eggs). Carl the EE rooster is the daddy, Rebecca laid the nice green egg, and Buffy my Buff Orpington hatched my first GrandChick.
