Pipping at wrong end and dry membrane!

I have a slight problem with my boy, Newt..
He always has food and he eats a lot but he nibbles on everything he finds.
Yes it was cute at first and I thought he'd grow out of it but hes been trying to eat everything, from paper towels, his pine shavings, cardboard, my clothes!
I understand they nibble on things but I don't want him eating things like cardboard and paper towels.. Hes clearly happy when doing it, he makes all sorts of happy noises.

Is there any way I can correct him and tell him no?
Also I'd like to say, sometimes hes terrified of my hands and runs away then sometimes he jumps in my hands to get out of his brooder. It's not really good when hes free roaming (supervised, teaching him to follow me) and I need to pick him up to put him back. Plus I don't want him to teach his sibling when she hatches to do the same.

There's not really a way to correct this, hes a baby and he's exploring and figuring out what food is and isnt. If he's eating things he shouldnt be, like cardboard or paper towels, I would remove those from his reach. For the wood shavings, this is a normal reaction to it at first. He shouldnt actually eat much, rather just play with it in his mouth, but it may be worth proving a little bowl with some chick grit in incase he does eat some.
Does he have 24/7 access to food and water?

For his fear of hands occassionally, this is normal. Being prey animals, anything reaching over him could scare him. Just be slow. The way I picked my babies up as ducklings, while they were loose on the floor, was by cupping my hands slowly around them, and scooping them up. Always be gentle and calm. Avoid fast or sudden movements and he should be okay.

Why was there bleeding? If its over the air cell there shouldnt be any blood vessels in the way- could you get a photo of the safety hole?
Not entirely sure where there was bleeding. We made the safety hole right where the beak was, we candled and saw no blood vessels.
The egg isn't wiggling but the beak is still moving around when we candle it.

There seems to be a kinda red streak a bit above the safety hole but when we candle it there isn't any blood there.

He does have access to food and water 24/7. Sometimes he does run out of water in the middle of the night since he drinks a lot so I'm planning on switching him to a bigger bowl.
We do use paper towels with pine shavings under since we don't have puppy pads.
We are planning to switch him to pine shavings once the other duckling hatches and becomes 1 week old.
About the cardboard box, we have that on top of his heat plate since on the box it shows no way of making it taller and hes been trying to get on top of it.

My moms boyfriend made the safety hole and it looks too far from the air cell which is probably why it bled.
Should we make another one so it has better air (more down and where most of the air cell is)? There was membrane under where we made the safety hole and its not really broken so its not getting enough air from the hole.

Hey! Since no one seems to be responding and I'm quite worried, do you think you could help?
I've read tons and tons of articles but when it comes to this I'm absolutely worried I'm doing the wrong thing.

The egg has internally pipped since day 27 and its currently day 29. Its still wiggling around and moving around, it seems to have most of its body in the air cell(?) but I can't hear any peeping. Not really worried about hearing no peeping since with Newt I didn't hear any and he was fine.
I'm really nervous to make a safety hole in case it's too early or I should let the duckling do what it needs to do.
What do you think I should do?
Hi
Sorry I have not been on today
I make a safety hole after 24 hours
They will run out of air if you don’t
Then 24 hours later I make the hole bigger enough to see in and check for veins ect
Because it’s been 2 days make the safety hole a little bigger and see what you can see
Be careful

any update? I would make it a little bigger if not. But be very slow and gentle. If you see blood vessels stop, and dont move the duckling from the shell. Make sure you've read the assisted hatching article. Assisted hatching article
I'm also going to @WVduckchick who is an expert hatcher and may have better advice.

The duckling hasn't tried to get out on the right end although I saw some movement near the safety hole.
I candled and I didn't really see veins so I think it's done absorbing. It did make a bruise on the wrong side of the shell (like how Newt got out).
Should I make a hole where the bruise was or widen the safety hole?
