I had a BO hatch earlier this spring w/ an unabsorbed yolk sac that survived and seems to be thriving. It's 12 weeks old now.

Henry was cute and so sweet. We are hoping that the turkeys in the incubator can be replacement pets.

I have one little turkey that finally hatched today. There's pics on my thread documenting the hatch. I don't know if the other one will make it.

Update:

Bad news.....

the second baby died...s/he drowned in it's water. S/he was quite weak and lifted his/her head to peep. I just went out for a very few minutes and when i got back in the house...my dh broke the news. He found the baby with just his/her lil' beak in the water. I'm broken hearted and the other chick is constantly crying out for his/her sibling. I put a stuffed toy in with him/her,but that hasn't helped. I don't have a feather duster,nor a wind-up clock. I don't know what to do. S/He's going to be keeping us up all night. I could put him in the brooder out in the barn,but it is really big and also it was built for a bit older chicks. I just don't know what to do.

Have you tried putting a little mirror in the brooder with the surviving chick? I don't know if it works that well. I think it's tougher when a chick *had* a broodmate for a period of time and then is suddenly alone, so my sympathies... My singletons were only-hatches so never experienced companionship aside from what we, as humans, can provide. They are fine by themselves but have problems as they get older because they aren't able to socialize as chickens.

I don't know if you have feed stores where you are, where they might have very young chicks. If you do, I suggest calling around to see if any of them are selling peeps. If you're lucky, maybe they'll have sexed chicks and you can get a pullet chick or two. Sometimes, you can find chicks on Craig's List (under Farm & Garden or Pets).

I just worry because the singletons I've raised had slightly warped personalities, like they felt more comfortable around humans than other chickens. It just makes integration into the flock more difficult, and with cockerels, when they reach "that age," they'll often try to mate with your foot as opposed to actual hens.

Really sorry about the little chick that you lost

I'm so sorry...I just had a single chick hatch about 10 days ago. I put a beanie baby in with it and it helped some, but I'm sure it's going to peep for the other chick for a while. We picked Felix up and lot and loved on him and I think that helped also. I ended up ordering bantam chicks from My Pet Chicken for him.

Thank you.....I hope I can fine someone with baby chicks that s/he can have some companionship with. I feel so bad...I am in shock,just cannot believe it happened.
