Pipping, Zipping, Hatching - An Educational Photo Series (Image Heavy)

BoJo, you most certainly can!

I don't mind letting teachers use my photos for classroom stuff like that!

Lemme know how it goes with your class, BoJo. I always love to hear about stuff like that!

Thanks johnmayersquare. And you're welcome!

Thankfully this little guy was super speedy with his hatch, unlike his siblings. There is one silkie and another dark brahma that are just taking their sweet time. In a few hours it'll be the 24 hour mark for those two pipping. And they are juuust starting to zip. First guy there did it in 30-45 minutes. It was anxious to get out.

And actually, he's getting hungry but I can't open the bator! He's picking the shell off of the two pipped eggs, helping them along. It's amusing, and yet I wanna feed him ASAP.

P.S. My legs were going a little numb towards the end. Had to sit with my legs folded under me.

i love it when they pop out of the egg and open their shiny little black eyes for the first time... and then they look at you! i just love that look. it really brings out the mother in you.

i love seeing baby chicks hatch, it really is the most amazing thing!

I'm hatching a bunch of defective eggs this week. I just like looking at pics of a normal pip and zip. I doubt this crew will do it normal like the ones in the main bator - that's why they're separate, at final candle it was obvious there were problems with all five. Still it's an oddball hatch all together and even one would be a victory so we'll see.

The turkey poult from one of the rescued eggs is trying but he only got to a short inch of zip then quit last night. He's tough to have made it this far, the first four all quit, apparent malformations from being unturned and poorly incubated by momma.

If he makes it he'll be the first miracle turkey from that broody. I also have pullet eggs with problems and shipped eggs that had massively defective air cells so we get to just see. Any life salvaged will be a win.

I really appreciate the pics.

I agree, KattyKillFish.

walkswithdog, I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of your "special" babies. I think I've got one of those too in my Porcelain D'Uccles. Here's to hoping for some hatchers!

I am on day 19 with my silkies and I hope I get to see this! They were shipped and this is my first time, so I am worried about everything. Your baby is so ADORABLE!!!
