Hi was wondering how long it takes the average chick from the first sign of a pip to actually hatching out?
Also when it says the hatch date is usually 21 days does it mean they will pip on that day or be fully hatched by that day?

Have seen the term zip used what does it mean?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that they pip around day 20 and it takes them 24 to 48 hours to get out. I'm not all that sure though. Anyone else???

Zipping means that they've pipped a lot and pipped enough to start to "Unzip" themselves out of the egg.

well you know the pip is the first little break in the egg...the zip is when they rotate inside the egg pipping the egg in a continuous line around the egg like they are unzipping it...
It can take 24 hours, but the strong ones are really fast like 6 hours sometimes...
