Pirate ducklings with chicken mama!

I need to exercise self control nd leave mama be.

I really would rather use a bator...to see the hatch and avoid the mama drama in the flock. Got mama now having a hard time reintegrating.

Update:

2 healthy active chirping babies. 1 blue and 1 maybe splash.

I pulled this one egg today, looks far worse than a few days ago, no doubt dead. Photos below.
2 eggs left, one has some veins and movement, maybe even an internal pip, the second is questionable, but had movement on day 26 and doesn’t look terrible so I’m leaving it for now.

It WAS internally pipped and died. I did not make the hole in the membrane. I guess for some reason it wasn’t strong enough to externally pip. I’m not going to open the egg anymore. I just wanted to give it a chance in case it was resting and needed some air, but I’m too late. I assumed since it looked like an internal pip this morning that I would come home to progress, I don’t think it would have gone any differently had I not been at work kinda bummed, but all around it was a good experience and I have a much better idea of what good eggs and bad eggs look like. Kinda wishing I hadn’t promised the babies to a friend since there are only 2 now, but it will be ok. Maybe we’ll hatch more with the next broody.

So sry about the others. I am glad that you got 2 healthy webbies tho! I just candled all of my ducks eggs and pulled one that was obviously bad. So now she is down to 7. We are about a week away so we'll see how it goes.
