Pit Bull Puppy (GETTING BETTER)

Hey Thanks for the Staffordshire tip. We usually tell people that he is a Boxer mix....for that very reason. Honestly we are not totally sure what he is....just know he has "Staffordshire" in him!!

I would say he is 3 to 3 1/2 months old. When you take him to the vet they will be able to tell you by looking at his teeth....beautiful dog

you ever notice dobies are not that popular any more. When I was a kid (a million years ago, 40 now) everybody had them.

He is sooooo cute!!

Dobies aren't that common anymore! I have 2 black and tan males. They are my big babies, but when we take them out, naturally everyone is afraid of them. Same thing with my brothers pitbull, she is a love bug and has been for her whole 7 years of life, but it is the stereo type of the breed. I think you are lucky to have found such a cute little pup, or should I say he found you!!! I think he is beautiful!!

That puppy is so beautiful!

The breed is not violent by nature, the only reason there are so many is because the type of people that are attracted to the breed make them violent or neglect them. We had a pitbull/sharpie mix (she was specifically breed to fight) that we rescued, who was the sweetest creature I have ever known. She was actually scared of everything

Every dog has a prey drive. We have a big old dopey golden retriever that will go after the chickens when he is influenced by our terrier. Now, while he is still a baby, have him exposed to the chickens all the time. We had kittens around all the time when we had our dog Angel, and she was scared of them because mama would always beat her up if she got near them

Poor baby, she even got beat up by a baby raccoon once! Yep, she definitely fit the stereotype of a pitbull

Here is a picture of Angelcakes in her Halloween costume (we put a lot of thought into it huh?)

What are you talking about? That's not a pit bull, or a staff terrier. It's a Staff Terrier/LABRADOR mix!!! LOL!! Seriously, that's what most people do out here with their bully breeds because of the stereotype against them. If you have papers saying your dog is a LABRADOR mix (from a kind vet, of course) you have less to worry about as far as harassment goes. Just thought I'd mention it!

That is such a cute little puppy! You lucked out on your find! Here's some advice:

This breed is animal aggressive by nature. Period. No matter how much training you give the dog, you must ALWAYS keep an eye out for possible fights, especially with other pit bulls and other bully breeds. Just because Brutus and Spot get along on Monday DOES NOT mean they will get along Monday night!

These dogs ARE NOT people aggressive by nature! Socialize, socialize, socialize! Keep in mine, however, that they are VERY territorial, and WILL guard their property against animals and strangers. Some pits don't make good guard dogs because of how people loving they are, but some will (like ours) and although ours isn't an attack dog we do have to take precautions with strangers, such as an electric fence and a muzzle.

Spay/Neuter! If that pup is three-four months old already TAKE HIM IN! We got our male neutered at 4 months, and he's a wimp! He's been attacked by our female and fought back, but he's terrified of her and won't even go near the kennel when she's in it! I attribute this to him being neutered, since I know that Tuna is not a fight-picker. Also, fixing your dog promotes health and increases their life span, while also preventing the possibility of random homeless litters of puppies.

Once again, congrats on your find! Do some research on training, cause these dogs are BRILLIANT! You could teach him to sit almost instantly! Please remember that these dogs are very intelligent and physically active, and require a lot of care and attention. They'll try to become the long lost child of the family, no joke. Ours gets sad if he sees my son get tucked in and I don't tuck him in as well. He got over that one REAL quick, but still, they're smart. Good luck!

Just thought I would share some pictures of Daphne, she is just 1 year old and weighs about 90 pounds!

Daphne was rescued from a local dog fighting ring and was destined to be destroyed. She arrived with a few scars but is an incredibly submissive sweet natured dog, who lets the chickens eat from her food bowl first and is often beat up by the cat.

HOWEVER she turns from the sweet loveble pup into a killing machine if you let her anywhere near another dog. Fortunately we have grown-up kids and no dogs near by so we can manage her.

I am telling you this not to scare you but to re-enforce what C Jeanean says, get him neutered, socialise him as much as possible and get him to puppy class. He will most probably make you a fantastic dog and with patience will help protect you and your flock, but his instinct will be to fight other dogs and chase prey, he can't help that, so it's up to you to be sensible about how much trust you put in him and not put him in situations that are so tempting he can't help himslef.

All that aside, he is a lovely looking guy and it's great he has found you. I hope you have as much fun with him as we do with Daphne (the devil dog) lol

Actually American Pitt Bull Terrier is an actual a breed recognized by the UKC, not recognized by the AKC, but is a breed itself. The American Staffordshire Terrier is recognized by the AKC as is the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. All of which in slang are referred to as "Pit Bulls" because all of the breeds have been used for fighting.

I would always keep an eye on him because even my two beagles (who never chased the chicks, also were never left unattended) killed and ATE a hen that flew into their huge pen. These aren't even hunting dogs, they are show dogs.......
