No apologies necessary. I should have left the breed off the original post. I did not realize at the time that it would start any kind of debate. I wish it hadn't. BTW, What does SSS mean? I am assuming "shoot the predator" but well, that would be STP.

I'm not saying Pitt bulls as an all around breed are naturally aggressive - just that poor breeding of any dogs can make more aggressive dogs by nature. This is for any breed from mastiffs to Chihuahuas. There are plenty of loving, passive, gentle Pitt bulls bred by people who care and bred using physically and temperament sound dogs. There are also many careless breeders who want to make a quick buck on their poorly bred dogs that do not care about the negative image and impact they are having on the breed. I find it heartbreaking that instead of trying harder to control the breeding and training of these dogs, many areas are just out-lawing them causing good family dogs to be taken and put down for fear alone.

This I agree with too many people letting pups get raised and bred so badly and ignorantly out of greed and neglect. I'm hoping this isn't the origin of the OP's problem dog, as it makes rehab and training difficult.

Anytime a breed of dog is mentioned here, (no matter what breed), there are many posts on the pros and cons on not only the breed mentioned, but lots of other breeds, too. IMHO, every breed has its good dogs and bad. They all have different strengths and weaknesses. But at the end of the day, it's the owners that tend to be a problem more than the dogs.

I think in most of my posts on this thread I have mentioned the owners and the fact that they do not care for these dogs properly. The female dog had teats that were nearly hanging to the ground, obviously had puppies somewhere. It's no wonder they surrendered the offending dogs. They have pick of the litter at their house! All ready to chain to a tree and live outside with no training or human interaction to speak of. It broke my heart that they were carting off a mother dog whose puppies might still need to be fed. My original post was not intended to bad mouth the breed of dog, it was intended to express my exasperation over losing my chickens and over dogs owners who are disrespectful of their dogs, their neighbors, and are not willing to accept responsibility for their animals. I wanted to share how destructive a determined dog can be by explaining the extent of the damage to my coop and eventually posting pictures of the damage and maybe learn how to protect my next round of chickens from the same fate.

The find the pitbull link was interesting. My initial guess was wrong, however was correct on the second guess. Pits are a banned breed in the uk and if a dog is deemed to be the pit breed by a vet there is only 1 outcome for it!! All dogs are still of wild decent no however these dogs have shown a wild side that still exists in many dogs and should be delt with accordingly!" Im sorry for your loss and no matter how many times its said its going to be hard for you! X

However at the end of the day its people who have the dogs are to blame, with out a doubt!!!!! And its people like you that have to deal with the concequences of their actions that may well have lead to this. The dog was doing what is within their genes. PEOPLE ARE TO BLAME

Holy Snap! They did some damage. Sorry to hear about it all. Hope the chicks come up well.

I'm sure those dogs don't hate you it's part of their instincts, I bet they were miss treated that usually make dogs go mangy.

I am sorry that happened to you and I you have my sympathies. I know exactly how you feel and people should start a forum about pit's if they want to argue. Honestly most of ya'll are saying the same thing, just using different words! Good Luck HazelCMAS
