PITBULL ATTACK!!!

Personally, I don't like pits - just not a good looking dog to me and not sure why anyone would want one.  I also don't like chihuahuas, lhasa apso, pekingese, chow chow or greyhounds.  Meanest dog I ever met was a black lab - but his owner was a no good, sour puss so what do you expect.

People who own pits need to understand they are a strong, muscular dog that need a leader for an owner.  All dogs need an owner that is a leader - letting your foo-foo toy poodle jump all over me is not acceptable, even if "He won't hurt you", those little teeth can rip my pants, snag my sweater and puncture my hands and make me bleed.  However, pits have a long history of being used as a fighting animal and to deny that your dog has this family history is burying your head in the sand and asking for trouble.  If the dog slips - it will be "No, not my dog.  He is a sweetie pie." - even when it is caught in the pen, covered in blood, with pony that was ripped to shreds and screaming in pain.
fair comment, I have my likes and dislikes on breeds as well... and as I said, you need to know the dogs/ breeds you have to properly manage them.... and if the dog happen to slip and kill something, a responsible owner will own responsibility for his/ her dogs.

I have had chickens for three months now, and my Boxers are awesome flock guards (after they got used to them). I won't let my chickens out to free range without the dogs to keep watch.

Cute trio! Lucky chickens to have a personal escort.

Thank you! Now if I can just keep the dogs out of the leftover chicken feed...

I HOPE my security team will be a good defense against predators. The more I read, the more I learn just how sneaky those darn hawks can be against most man-made deterrents.

there you go, that's better... now if you read all my posts from the beginning, you'll realised I have addressed all those issues you mentioned... if you say instinct in ALL dogs, I will easily agree with you but to single out a breed for it, wrong. Now go back to the start and see what I said about the dogs,

You don't seem to get that different breeds have different instincts. I have a herding dog, his instinct is to chase things. He was never "taught" to herd or chase things. However, out of natural instinct, he chases chickens and if not stopped will end up killing them. He will be perfectly fine for a while then for whatever reason all the sudden he is chasing a chicken again. He can't be trusted alone around chickens and I KNOW that and handle him accordingly. Most pitbull owners seem to forget that their dog's natural instinct is to attack and kill things and they don't seem to know that their natural instinct could kick in at any time. Maybe it NEVER has, but that is no guarantee that it never will. So anybody with any common sense guards against the possibility that their pitbull could kill or injure a human or other animal. I sure don't defend other people's herding dogs that kill chickens or other animals. That would be pretty ignorant of me and it is just as ignorant for a pitbull owner to defend and make excuses for the actions of other pitbulls that kill or injure people or other animals.
