How about FRUIT TREES ? ?

Can you grow collards in Washington ?
How high have your temps been ? ?
How Low do your temps go at night ? ?

Math is right, you should probably be doing cool season items now to make up for it, its late enough in the summer to start.

Back to cabbage, kale, bok choy, carrots, ect!

Most of the grapes are grown in Eastern Washington. The temperatures are much warmer on the other side of the cascades. Most of the commercial fruit tree crops are grown in E WA also.
On this side of the volcano's we are much cooler. I think the highest temperature this year has been 86 degrees. Most of the time it's been more like the lower 70's. We can grow some fruit trees this side, and I think that collards grow okay. Collards are not eaten very often around here. My mother likes them and grows them I think. We don't grow melons here it is just to cold at night. I have potatoes planted and tomatoes this year. I don't think I will get any tomatoes though. I planted rather late and with out some heat I am just not expecting much this year. i also have zucchini, and French pumpkins that are coming along nicely. Cool weather crops do the best. Things like cabbage and broccoli do very well in this climate. This year we have had a lot of grey mornings and sunny afternoons. The marine layer comes in overnight and it takes awhile for it to burn off. Night time temps are normally in the low to mid 50'2 at this time of year. I keep having the feeling that the volcano in Iceland has effected the temp around here. I have no proof, but It has been exceptionally cool this year on the West side of the Cascade range. My Sister and her DH grow grapes on the side of their brick home in the City of Seattle. I have never tried it. Blackberries grow like wild fire in Western Washington. I need to check and see if they are ripe yet.

Fruit trees like peaches and apricots don't do well here, and of course Citrus trees do not survive our winters.

I hear ya, Justbugged. It has been a cabbage year for sure. Green leafy vegitables, cabbages, fennel, peas . . . all have done well but haven't been as sweet as they usually are. Tomatoes, sunflowers, beans ,peppers, squash, melons, herbs . . . stunted and struggling. I planted a ton of nasturtiums this year and their just as happy as clams. Lots of berries

We haven't even had to turn on the AC here yet. We're going camping at the coast in a couple weeks and I'm worried it's going to be too cool.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the volcano is iceland has something to do with it. DH says the same thing happened for years after Mt. St. Helens erupted. WHO KNOWS!

here in Oregon, I'm waiting for tomatoes to grow on the vines yet, I did just replant my lettuces and broccoli though. The daytime temps here have been in the 80's and nights are in the high 50's.
we didn't have a spring this year, we were covering the garden to protect it frm frost the end of June.
btw, my daghter lives in Jacksonville, FL and I will be taking my gd back home in 2 weeks.

Here in wisc its been hot but my tomatoes seem to love it! the vines are out of control and the weight of the massive tomatoes has sent some vines to the ground!!!!

I got some gorgeous pumpkins coming in.

Going to plant carrots and cabbage soon. Probably next week. Though that is said to me, its finally time for FALL planting!?

My tomato plants are so heavy with gobs of big green juicy tomatoes that one of the plants literally collapsed the cage that was holding it up & my husband had to support it with boards! But we have only had a handful of hot days this summer & nothing is getting ripe except for the cherry tomatoes, and even those are ripening very slowly. I've usually picked/used about 10 pounds of tomatoes by now, usually with half as many plants as we've had this year! So far... we've had only 4 tomatoes ripen on the vine. It is not getting warm enough. Our zucchini plant is big and gorgeous and has lots of gigantic leaves and flowers, none of which are turning into fruit because it has not gotten hot enough. We've had 1 beautiful, healthy zucchini off the plant this year. ONE. That has never happened before. But then again, central California has never in my lifetime had a summer THIS cool.

I can't believe there are people who still think climate change isn't real. If you think it's not real, try growing a garden.

I can personally attest to how delicious HHandBasket's tomato's are LoL! Yum.

We have corn, tomatos, squash, beans, peas, jalapanos, and various fruit trees. Our soil is awful though, some beds have mold in the soil, so this fall we are going to work on getting it fixed up to try again next spring. This year our garden was a first try at this house, so now live and learn

I have 3 peach trees, and got ONE peach this year because of these $*&$*&@$* squirrels. I need a paintball gun, badly.. It's war with these dang rodent wannabe's. They also got our figs, cherries, and ect. Live and learn AGAIN lol!

Hopefully this time next year our yard will be happy and fertile!
