PLANTED GARDEN TODAY - anybody planting yet?

I just put out some zucchini and tomatoes. I grew some tomatoes from seed this spring; they didnt do very well, but I did get some suckers that I planted. I just planted them, and hope they do well. I love me some fresh maters!!

We have lettuce in now, cabbage (chinese and head), fennel, bok choy, carrots.... and we're still planting! More lettuce and broccoli will be going in tonight. Maybe more bok choy so I have them in a rotation for picking.

I have acorn squash, butternut squash, sprite melon and the last watermelon ripening now. As soon as I pick the watermelon that bed will get the garlic that should come in the mail in the next week.

Lastly, I will get in the onions in October!

VFEM - - - I am just now finding tomato hornworms near my garden. They are not in my garden BECAUSE I am still having germination issues. I have been putting seeds in the garden for a month now - - since about 8/20. Almost NO GERMINATION ! !

I got so desparate that I went to jiffy peat pots with the plastic lid germination system. STILL NO GERMINATION !
What is going on ? ? ?

We are just getting down to the low 80's this week. I am starting to panic because my garden is so empty. I have 8 corn plants, 8 green bean plants and 8 lima bean plants that have germinated - -- - NOTHING ELSE. The green beans have bean in the ground so long that I harvest beans last weekend for dinner. The corn has ears that are close to maturity.

Why can't I get germination ?? ? The last 10 days, I have dramatically increased the amount of water hoping to improve germination . . .
I am replanting seeds every 10 - 14 days in any row that shows NO GERMINATION. . .

HELP - - SUGGESTIONS - - ANYBODY ELSE EVER HAD A GERMINATION ISSUE ? ? ?

I have everything in right now except spinache and carrots but for some reason my green beans keep dying and I have to start them over which is odd to me since they are one of the easy's also I killed stink bugs on my squash yesterday ( yuck) I am in central fla by the way

I've got some that are date 12/09 and some dated 12/10. I know the 12/09 may not have the best germination, but they should still germinate something. . . .

So, I went to the feed store today and they had a master gardener there. I asked her why my garden seems to grow things, but won't germinate things. . . .

She said she has had many people come in this last month and complain about the same thing . . . . Her answer - - - - things are taking about 3 weeks to germinate because we are so hot and dry. I have luck germinating in the pots using the same soil that is in my garden, but not directly in the garden. When I plant in pots - - - and it is this hot - - - I usually place my pots in the shade. .. .

She said since we are starting to cool off - - - finally - - - and we got 3 inches of rain over a 5 day period - - -I should start to see some germination in the garden.

I came home today and checked out my garden and LOW and BEHOLD - - - some cucumber's were starting to come through the soil !

The master gardener also confirmed that this has been a ROUGH year for us in North Florida - - -The extremes in temps combined with NO WATER for months have made for a NASTY year!

I was having germination issues too... including carrots which are always so darn tricky to start with! ARGH!

I did plant some mums to give me some peace after several plantings of carrots and cabbage have failed.

Right there with you girl ! It has been extremely frustrating. Are you noticing that the weather has been way different this year in North Carolina ? ?
