I feel like the last frost has happened and I am going to tractor supply and grabbing a few apple and pear trees. I plan to just digging a hole, drop them in the ground and put some wire fence around them.

....is that all there is to it or am I sadly mistaken?

As long as the area you’re planting them has good soil and you will be watering them till the roots are established they should be fine otherwise you need to amend the soil and put some nutrients and loose humus in the hole not just clay soil.

Leaving this here for me later:

Standard apple trees need 30-35 feet between trees, while semi-dwarf apples require 15 feet and dwarf apples need only 10 feet. Peach trees should be spaced 20 feet apart. Standard pear trees need about 20 feet and semi-dwarf pears about 15 feet between trees. Plum trees should be spaced 15 feet apart and apricots 20 feet apart.

We planted two apple trees, two peach trees and two pear trees back in October, so they would be established by spring.
One tip I got from a professional landscaper is to plant them on a mound, as it helps with drainage. Basically plant them a little higher than you would think, and mound the dirt up around them. Does wonders for keeping the roots from rotting.
