One of my apple trees split in half and fell yesterday. šŸ˜¢ Gathered up many of the apples in hopes I can grab them before the chickens/dog/deer get to them!
We plan to cut the fallen half before winter arrives. Should we leave the upright half alone or go ahead and cut it down? I am assuming it will eventually weaken and fall, as well? If we leave it upright, will it bear anymore fruit for years to come? The trunk appears relatively rotted (soft) at the split, however the upright portion's trunk seems more solid.

I'd leave it and see. My parents had a tree do the same thing. The remaining part produced for a few years afterwards. It all depends on whether it rots or not.
