I was thinking about putting a cherry red currant (fruiting kind), transplanting some daylilies, and some mooncreeper cotoneaster (berries eaten by other birds with no problem) in my duck run. Any chance they will hold up to my dear flat footed duckies??? LOL Anyone have any experience with cotoneaster and ducks?

Ducks are going to destroy any plants you put in their run. Unless it's been established there for awhile it really doesn't stand a chance

I agree they'll probably destroy it, I'm planning on planting my plants right outside the run so they can nibble through the wire, will still get shade and be somewhat shielded, but won't kill my plants.

I'm surrounding my run with cinderblocks and I'm going to plant herbs and ornamental grasses into the holes on the block.

Very good idea.

I like the cinderblock idea!

Also, I think lilies are toxic to critters, are the not? I could be wrong on that.

I have also been wondering if there is something I could plant in my duck run that they won't destroy, and was thinking about something like a dwarf burning bush, since the "stem" part is more woody than green. Wonder if that would work?

I wonder if it's just cats? I know lilies are toxic for cats, or maybe I am completely mis-remembering which flower it is...I'll go see what I can find.

Okay, found this - it does sound like cats are the only critters that lilies are toxic for:

Sorry for the mis-information posted!

ok... those are all Lillium sp.... true lillies , which I think are toxic to us too... day lillies are a completely different family of plant... the similarities in appearance are superficial...
