Well after much reading I've figured out that the poisonous part of the Wisteria is the seeds. Sooo, doesn't that make them seem a little safer? I figured if I couldn't use them to beautify the run, then I'd put them along my back fence, where I can't put trees. Any ideas?

Wisteria can be very invasive and heavy. It will eventually bring down most fences. I hope you have a very strong fence. It is beautiful in the spring though.

thankyou i am going to try these methods i am going to get grape vines fig tree and give them lettuces that wil be surronded with chicken wire

And we have a sturdy 3-rail fence. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I'm looking forward to my backyard being an over grown beauty. But of course, not at the expense of animals in my yard. On that link I posted earlier it says the seeds are what's poisonous, and it showed them in a picture. So maybe if I keep on top of it I can just pick off the pods?

Is that grape vines over the top of your run?

Yes, we have one Flame seedless and two Thompson seedless vines situated on 40' of chicken run. It grows up through the center and over the top. You can see more pics on "My Coop" page just under my avatar.

That is my exact plan for grape vines! We'll have 6 support posts in the run, and I'll be using those for the grape vines. Yours is just beautiful.

I'd love to hear from people in the north that have perennial vines. How long does it take for the vines to grow enough for shade each summer?
