Plastic Pallets

Hi All,
I was recently offered free plastic pallets by a friend for the inside of our chicken run. The run measures about 7' x 13'. It is screened and has a roof and walk-in door. Because of where we situated the coop and run, we get snow melt runoff from a small rise next to the coop. In the winter this becomes a problem since our girls are literally up to their knees (do chickens have knees? Well that's another topic!) in mud! Even though I use the snowblower to clean off the hill, the run is still a mess for them. So...does anyone out there have any experience using these plastic pallets. They apparently have 'legs' which I thought would raise the girls above the mud. Perhaps we could even remove them once things dry up. We figured on leaving the area under the coop alone so they'd have somewhere to scratch.
Opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

What kind of bedding do you have in your run?
Is this only a problem during snow melt or when it rains too?
Can you dig a trench to lower ground to facilitate drainage?
Pics from farther back of the hill and run and the area around it would help too.
