Plastic Wrapping Runs

Just finished wrapping the run. Used dollar store shower curtains, strapping, duck tape, screws and washers. Wrapped the curtains around the strapping. The curtains are very thin. Time will tell if they hold up. They are nice and clear.
Either that pic is before they were installed...or they are very clear and attachments are invisible. :D

Oops. That was the before. This is after.

If you look to the left under the coop. There is plastic from last year. 6 mil from home depot. You really could not see through it. But it has lasted a year.

Looks good (JReardon). I'm Northwest of you and its been real cold the past couple days. It was about 10 degrees yesterday morning and 13 today. The chickens seem to being doing well. I give them a handful of corn before "bedtime." Their water isn't freezing as quickly as I expected.

Mine aren't quite that clear, however the sun does shine enough to warm it up. The run gets some sun on the 4 ft that faces south but gets quite a lot from the west side. When it's really cold the waterer inside the coop freezes way before the one in the run. Despite the cold with temps during the day in the 20's they spend most of their time in the run.

I decided to try landscaping fabric over the windows on my coop. I want to knock down the wind and still allow air flow. My coop is only 5 ft deep, and the roosts are more at a level to the window than I'd like. My front windows are 12 ft x 14 inches. I left one eave vent and the chicken door uncovered. It seems to be working.

Last year I used some old tarps to cover the run, this year I made some 1x2 frames and stapled some 8 mil plastic on them. I didn't like that I could not see inside with the tarps. I left the north side open and the top foot or so all around. Mainly just a wind break for the hens and me when I'm in there.
