Play sand (for sandboxes)

I used play sand here. I used in it my brooder as my bedding and the chicks ate it as their grit. We live on a sand road and have a very sandy yard so now since the chicks are outside they just use the yard sand as their grit.

They are loving the grit. Thank you for the suggestion about mixing it in some of their food. I will do that. Another question: How in the world do I stop them from pooping in their water and food? I have them set up off the bottom of the tote, but one of the little fuzz balls keeps getting on the feeder & waterer and pooping in it. I have a feeling it is Pretty Girl. I thought it might have been Nosy but she doesn't act like she wants to get up there. Whereas Pretty Girl hops up on anything and everything! They are soo funny. I never knew chickens were so entertaining!

The first time we took our chicks outside (unseasonably warm here in Wisconsin with 80* weather the last 2 weeks!!) it was near our new sandbox. They LOVED the sand. I only let them by the box for about 10 minutes though because I feared they would overeat it.

U can raise the waterer and food so not as much goes in it but my chicks poop and throw pine shavings everywhere. I got tired of the poopy, dirty water thing so I put in a nipple waterer and I and them all love it....Only took them a day to all catch on and 4 out of 5 got it with an hour or 2. Holds 1.5 gal's or so....simple and cheap
