I am new to chicken raising and need some help. Can someone please help me with some of the breeds I have and most importantly what sex they are. I am supposed to have all hens. They are all around 10 weeks except for the RIR I have no idea how old the RIR are. I thought they were laying hens but they are still peeping. Any help would be appreciated. Does anybody see any Roos because they are all to be hens!

The 2 red and white I got at tractor supply and it just said Red Pullets......what does that mean? Are they a specific breed?

The one on the right is supposedly a hen and a Blue Wheaten Amerucana I bought from a dealer

The 2 black Judy/Woody (started out as Judy but now that he is hackling his name is Woody) and Harriet are supposed to be French Black copper Marans also supposed to be hens but the one on the left has been hackling for a couple weeks now.

The beautiful coop me and my husband built

This is Ella and Stella supposed to be RIR and I have no idea how old they are. I thought they were laying hens but when I got them home they were still peeping! Also both are to be hens.

Ella

This is Harriet not sure if she is a hen because her comb is so big but not as big as Woodys.

This is Jo Jo she is supposed to be a hen and also a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana? I thought Ameraucana were to have slate legs? Hers are yellow.

Another pic of Jo Jo

Two of the Red Pullets

Stella is she a hen?

This is Tilley

Here is a close up of Judy/Woody who has been hackling for a couple weeks

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, let's see if I can be of any help. The two red pullets you bought at Tractor Supply are red sex links, not a real breed, but a mix that's bred so that the girls hatch out a different color than the boys, and they are 100% girls. The two you think are RIR are RIR I think, but if they're still peeping then they're not going to be laying for awhile. They do look like girls though, which is good.

The 'blue wheaten ameracaunas' are not that, that's for sure. You're right, they would have slate legs if they were pure and the girls, from what I know of them, are a kind of wheaten light color and definitely not barred like that one is. Maybe she is a barred rock/wheaten ameracauna mix. The first one is kind the right color for a blue wheaten...if it's a rooster. But I'm not an expert on ameraucanas so someone else who knows more might chime in on them.

The two black ones look like they could indeed be black copper marans, especially since it looks like they have feathered feet. The one with the big red comb is probably a rooster, especially since he's the same age as the others and he looks to have a bunch of copper coloring on his hackle feathers.

Hope that helps and maybe someone else will chime in on the 'ameracuanas!'

First pic: I agree, by red pullets you're basically getting red sexlinks. They guarantee you females because the girls and boys are colored differently from hatch. Yours are definitely girls because they are red.

Second pic: That doesn't look like a blue wheaten Ameracauna to me at all... more likely an easter egger, if it had the name amercauna attached to it. The tail feather coloring reminds me of my NH reds so possibly a cross with that? Hard to say since so many people claim to sell pure-bred ameracaunas but are really selling mixes called easter eggers.

Third pic: I've had marans, but not french black copper. But I agree, left looks like a rooster, right looks like a hen.

Sixth pic: Could be RIR, they look a little light though. But regardless you have a red colored layer, which are all pretty similar.

Ninth pic: Jo Jo is SOOO pretty!! I love crele coloring (red, black, white). It looks like you have some sort of crele barred (barred is the pattern) chicken. Not sure of breed, but the coloring is so pretty! I definitely don't think amercauna (maybe EE if we're really pushing it?) but either way she is so pretty. And yes ameracaunas are supposed to have slate/green/grey legs. EE's don't have a specific coloring, which is why EE is possibly, especially if they're being sold as ameracaunas.

Thanks for your help. It's not what I wanted to hear but thank you! I really wanted Amerucana chicks!

Can you get better side shots of the RIRs? Were they wet? They look like they've got some pointy feathers which would be worrisome. Also those big, red combs if they're still peeping.

Maybe a better side shot of the suspected Marans rooster.

I see a LOT of males. At 10 weeks, pretty much anything with a red comb is male.

The red and white birds are sex link pullets. They'll be great layers for you, nice large brown eggs.
The Marans are both male.
The Rhode Island Reds are both male. You can see hackle and saddle feathers coming in on them. If they were young enough to be peeping when you got them, they're going to be crowing soon.
Tilley and Jo Jo are mixed breed roosters.

He's the marans both have feathered feet.

Please don't tell me Tilley and Jo Jo are roo's because they are our favorites! We can't have Roos!:(

We were thinking Woody was the only roo because they are all the same age and he started crowing a couple weeks ago and no of the others have.

Sorry, you're going to have a bunch of crowing and mating going on in the next few months. You'll need to separate those hens or they'll get terribly overmated, and sounds like you'll need to start rehoming roosters. 10 weeks is the early end of puberty, the crowing rooster is just an early developer.
