please advise, heartbroken and afraid

I am so sorry about the loss of your ducks. It is always hard to lose one. Everyone has given you great advice on your potential new ducks. I hope she will be happy soon.

I also wanted to suggest you may want to think about if you have the right vet for you. There a lot of vets who will say they treat birds, but are not avian vets. Your 3 bad experiences just put up flags for me. It is just something to think about. If you trust your vet, then that is great. You always want one that you trust.
yes.. funny you say that.. the first vet , who is one of 125 certified Avain vets.. his office, i believe, caused all the problems..i actually think they broke my cayuga 's leg.. but i have been at a hospital now about an hour from me which has nothing but all certified avian and exotic specialists. They are the ones who actually gave my sweet Shiloh a fighting chance.
My poor pekin was at another hospital who i think messed up her surgery.

I am very fortunate to live near NYC and north jersey where we a have good avian and exotics vets. But the beleive me .. i hear you.. honestly.. we bought this house two years ago.. i was ready to sell bc i was starting to feel like it was cursed!! My husband has of course calmed me down about that ( kinda.., lol) Butyes.. i totally hear you

That is pretty lucky. There are not very many good vets where I am at. And the good vets have been absorbed into the VCA hospital where the management sucks. It sounds like you are overall in good hands.

I’m still searching for a decent duck doctor!
im so sorry to hear about your babies 😔. Many of us have been here. I’ve been strumming the blues a bit myself as of late.

If you have not found a pal for your buddy soon I’m in Northern Virginia maybe 5 hrs south. I have re-homed a few ducks locally. Surely some of us could find your gal company. Question is should you look for a pair or more of gals? A single drake might not be a good idea? I don’t know enough to comment here. I have 14 gals and one drake, I swear the 4 ducks per drake minimum isn't enough! He is his fathers son and a Casanova to say the least.

I’m happy to meet you in Pennsylvania as far as Mechanicsburg. My Folks are weekly participants in animal transports from Hagerstown to MechB. just about every Saturday.

most of the time i’ve seen people have issues with their drakes, it’s because they don’t have enough space. i keep my oldest two drakes with just each other and they are best friends. my other drake has always been with his two hens and i’ve never had an issue. personally i know atleast 10 people who just pairs and it works perfectly fine (again, they are all kept as just pets with lots of space and things to do. if you keep ducks in a small area with nothing to do you will always have problems)

Hey everyone, sorry i was a bit MIA- was so heartbroken I had a hard time reading all your lovely responses.. so after a week of tears.. i think i am moving forward with ducklings..i have three ordered.. however, I see here that some of you have told me you might have some girls??
I would love just one other girl for my sweetie.. which btw- is actually loving all the attention she is getting!!
i am so so sad over all this.. i cant believe my three loves are all gone..

i am not sure my response made it to you last time... i wanted to let you know that maybe one of my vets could recommend someone for you.. or maybe do a one time in person visit, then tele-health? Where are you located?

That is most kind of you. I am located in Purcellville VA /Northern Virginia. I’m happy to see you’ve brought home some new little fuzzy bundles of joy.

I wish space where the issue. They are purely pets.

During the day they have 1/2 acre electrified fenced in area almost completely covered in grass, maybe 50% tree and shrub cover.

They have it pretty good I think.

I am on the look out for a Cayuga drake. My last cayuga drake was a gentle soul. He respected my ladies and was a gentleman lol. I hope to find a nice fella needing a new home. 🤞🏻 I am wondering if a larger or more dominant drake might keep horny Mr Charlie in his place? He’s a stinker.
