Please Advise!!!!

I posted this a while ago and apparently nobody on that day had any knowledge of this kind of stuff. I am reposting because my friend sent me pictures to see if anyone has any ideas before she loses more birds. She has some sort of eye infectione going through the flock. There is foam in the eye and yellow crusties. The eye also gets pushed away by the swelling as you can see in one picture. Its spreading fast to the others. I gave her my terrimycin (sp) and after a week on that there is no improvement. Here are some photo's.....I hope someone knows how she can treat this.

I'm new to chicken too and I've had something like this go through some of my birds. I've lost 2, but I've also had 2 roos get better. I started with the terrimycin with not very good results, now they are on day 7 of Sumlet which seems to help and some bird that had started to show syptoms are alot better. Also I've been giving infant vitimins in there water too.

do u have terramycin eye ointment? i'd try that. the vet should have it, when my horse and my cats have had eye infections, that's what they give us.

in a pinch i'd use any eye ointment that you might have for people. probably not the greatest thing for chickens, but that eye looks bad, i'd want to get it taken care of ASAP.

Look in your farm supply store for a pink eye med. (try the cattle section) I have used it on eyes that look like that in the cats.

Not sure what to tell you, could be several things. Infectious sinusitis, infectious laryngtracheitis, infectious coryza all come to mind and all involve some sort of eye secretions. The sinusitis supposedly causes foamy secretions, but I was thinking that was more of a turkey thing than a chicken thing. It looks pretty bad and oxytet is probably not strong enough; that looks like it needs heavy artillery.

Thank you all so much for all the replies. I went through my pet meds and found a 1/2 tube of the terrimycin eye cream. My friend is going to try to find the sulmet at the farm store tomorrow. Hopefully your help will save a 14 yr old boys flock of chickens. I'll let you know how it goes at the end of the week.

Lurky....On the sister board BYC ezboard in Emergencies on page 2 there is a post on Bubbly Eye Chickens....Read the posts and its suggested this may be a Respiratory disease carried by wild birds...(either bacterial (most common) or viral...Treat with Tylan powder in the water...Oxytetracycline will work but not as good....Hope this post helps....
