Hi all,

Of my nine chicks this one is stumping me on gender. Sexed as a female from the hatchery, “she” is developing some longer tail feathers. they are more cone shaped like a hen, no large/redder comb or wattles than any of the others the same age. Neck feathers appear rounded and no saddle feathers at this point. Do you all think this is a hen or a roo? 9 weeks old.

I've definitely had girls with those longer tail feathers around this age. I'm guessing it's because they go through several molts, and their body size doesn't necessarily keep up with the new feathers! I'd hold out for more evidence before assuming she's a he. :)

Too soon to say for certain, but so far everything looks like a Girl to me.
One of my Hens has had a longer, fancier Tail since she was 4 Weeks old, never grew into it, it's just the way she is!

It looks like a pullet to me! It reminds me of on of our barnyard mix hens who has such a long tail! Here is a pic of when she was younger! Her tail is even longer now that she is older!
