I have 2 Emu's for sale, and someone came to pick them up a couple of weeks ago, but that did not work out so well.

The person brought a great cattle/horse trailer and this person already had Emu's, so I thought it would be relatively easy.

It turns out that I had to take a section of the fence out so that the trailer could easily be accessed.
My Emu's completely freaked out and were trying and almost jumped the fence several times. (5 foot fence - I know, should be at least 6). I have never seen them act like that, they eat out of my hands and follow me around like puppies. I spend time with the several times daily. It probably didn't help that the persons' adult son kept waving his arms at them, something I have never done.

The guy kept saying, 'they are wild, you need a higher fence.. blah blah blah' I was kind of offended by him, I'm thinking.. they are not wild at all with me or anybody else who is around them.

Does anybody know if I can find someone to tranquilize/sedate them? That way whoever wants them next time, it won't be so traumatic.

Perhaps you could train them to load in a friends trailer? I would think sedation on any type of bird could be risky. If you could borrow some cattle panels and make a corral it would be easier. I hope the next people who want them are more patient. I try to train my Emu with all kinds of things, I guess that would be next, he he.

Yeah I agree, they should have been more patient. I was shocked by how my Emu's acted around them, it was scary. I just do not want them or me to go through that again. I'm thinking I can try to get them onto my Dad's cattle trailer, then perhaps when the new owners get here, they will just have to move to another trailer, but in a much more confined space, so they won't freak out as bad.

I think that would be best. Just have them back up as close to the trailer as possible, perhaps using the doors as a chute, so they can just go from one trailer to another. Less stress on everyone.
