Claire stood where she was, looking Ira up and down. "Hello." She said quietly.

Ira started grazing.

Claire walked to a fallen tree not far away, sat down, pulled out her sketch book, and started drawing a flower.

Americus gasped, whipping his head around to look at the colt. "Is that - ?"

The colt coughed uncontrollably, and choked on the tall weeds sticking up from the ground.

"I'll be right back!" Americus cried to Aspen as he tore across the ground between him and the colt. When he got to the colt, he gently pulled him onto the short-cropped grass that had already been grazed, and tried to pull out the weeds that were sticking out of the colt's mouth. After they were all removed, he began to attempt to massage the colt's throat, trying to push the grass back up into the colt's mouth.

Aspen smiled, watching them.

The colt cried out in pain as Americus touched his throat. Tha grass had become a hard lump that couldn't be moved without extreme pain to the colt. He slowly closed his eyes, trying to cough up the grass, but was unable to do so. Aspen wept again, seeing the colt had stopped making any noise, and had no movement.

Claire laughed quietly and gently pushed her away. "Hey silly, you're blocking my light!" She said giggling. She pet Ira's head softly, looking into her eye's with her own bright green ones.

Americus lowered his head, his nose almost touching the ground. He walked to the stream, and touched the foal's side one last time before he sunk into the pond. "Don't ever forget we love you," He whispered.
