Please Everyone- Earlobe Color Has Nothing To Do With Egg Color

my friends cream Legbar has blue ears and lays the same color blue eggs. my legbar is too young yet to tell.

I have yet to see a blue ear lobe on a chicken but maybe I just haven't seen enough chickens. As someone already pointed out Cream Legbars have (or are supposed to have) white ear lobes - likely from the white egg layers that were bred into them.

Edit: Woops I stand corrected - I don't know a darn thing about silkies except that they also do not lay blue eggs. Never knew they had blue earlobes though.

But then, we'll have folks that see silkied Ameraucanas and don't understand they're not really silkies, and say they lay blue eggs...it's a slippery slope, I'm telling you.....

The funny thing about a breed is if enough people like the characteristics and there is sufficient population that reproduces the same traits, it will become a new variation on the breed or a new breed altogether.

As much as people can be all cut and dried about pure bred animals - at some point all of our pure breeds were nothing more than mutts that eventually were bred to the specific characteristics that their handlers wanted. To me, that is the fun part .

An interesting fact about Silkied Ameraucanas.......

The original Silkied Ameraucanas were not Silkie/Ameraucana crosses. The breed is based on a few chickens with a feather like Silkies have. These Ameraucanas had no Silkie blood in their background.

That's what I was saying, they're not Silkies the breed, they are a separate breed that had a wildcard mutation, but folks won't research that enough..
