I am utterly inconsolable. I was in the cellar no more than 15 or 20 minutes and when I came out, two of my duck boys, Zorro and Paco (a Rouen and a Cayuga) were dead. Annette, my baby BR mix hatched in July, also dead. And my love, Baxter, my gorgeous BO "pullet gone roo", DEAD. FIVE of Helen's infant's are missing. Daphne (BO) and Jackie (BR) are also missing.

Jackie's babies can't stop chirping looking for their Mom. I brought them in the house.

I have Gretel in the house too. A very injured Cayuga. She is bleeding and I think her leg is broken. The girl at my vet's office here in no man's land said "I'm sorry ma'am, but we don't deal with birds" WHAT?????

Whatever it/they was/were attacked swiftly and quietly.

I'm sorry if none of this makes any sense,I just literally cannot see the keyboard very well through the tears.

OMG I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
Please let us know when you find out what happened to those much loved pets.

Sounds like dogs. What kinds of injuries were there? Dogs will just kill for sport and leave everything behind. They don't eat, they just kill. I'm hoping that your missing babies are just hiding. Go out and call softly. They may not return until tomorrow. They can hide in the darndest places when frightened.

Yes, thank you. It has to have been dogs , that's exactly what I think. I know dogs kill for sport. I read that here. That's why I keep my pups FAR away from the chooks.

Bite marks....that's what they were. I just got a good look at Gretel's wounds and it's definitely dog. I LOVE DOGS. However, I think I need to pay a little visit to that jerk about a mile down the road who has dogs running all over.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I have tears for you right now just by reading this. I lost two last night. We have no idea what happened to them. Nothing was left. Not even feathers. There were three missing but one returned this morning with her feathers ruffled and a boo boo on her toe. But I was devastated last night and spent an hour looking for them when they didn't come to the coop. Those of us on here that love our chickens feel your pain right now. Prayers sent your way.

I'm so grieving. I'm sorry. THANK YOU so much for the advice. I tried tonight to whisper "chick, chick, here baby" didn't work. I hope you're right and they'll be back in the morning.

Thank you. You have no idea how much your prayers mean to me. My Maggy May (BO) jumped right up on my arm and was clucking away....like she had something to say, or tell me. I wish I could understand them. But, in a way, I think I do.

I know this isn't much consolidation but he may be liable for damage. I had a neighbor who was ace when his little dog killed 2 of mine. He paid for the chickens and told me that if I see his little dog on my property again to pepper him with a shotgun. Well after one good peppering (done correctly and with rock salt is not lethal) he does't think about chickens anymore.

I'm with you thinking that sometimes they have something to say. I have a little bantam Cochin like that. She has taken a JG chick twice her size now to raise and comes to show me her baby & tell me about something everyday. I also have rouens that greet us like dogs when they see us drive up from their pens. I pray that your babies show up in the morning. Please keep us posted.
