Please groom your dogs (rant)

Good for you taking that poor dog in even for a little while to get him set up right. As a dog groomer I just want to slap people but my employer forbids us to call animal control on the owners no matter how bad the circumstances. They feel if they have brought them in to get groomed they are headed in the right direction. I feel that if they do it more than once and only bring their dog in every six months after its matted to have it shaved down then we should be allowed to do something. People are idiots and should not be allowed to have children or own pets without permits. I refuse to cause unneeded pain to an animal and if you don't want to brush your dog then tough cookies you are either getting a shaved dog or taking it back home. We can't fix stupid and we can't save them all but we can sure try to do the best we can.

You sure did but cutting mats with scissors can be dangerous and should be avoided if at all possible. If its that matted your best bet is to start fresh with a 10 blade. Its short but its the safest blade to use the bigger blades are more likely to catch skin just don't dig with it and make sure to check that its staying cool. And contrary to what the general population thinks they are not going to freeze in the 10 minutes it takes them to go out and potty. Just gives them incentive to hurry up.

well, i agree about the regular grooming/bathing, my spoos (standard poodles) are kept about 1/2-3/4" long, and bathed weekly. i also keep up on face/feet/tail/sanitary, but they absolutely hate being brushed... and i prefer the curly look myself, so it works for us. and even then, with longer coats most people don't bother combing down to the skin, so while they look fluffy, they can still be matted at the skin... a groomer friend's favorite rant when someone brings a doodle in and wants a bath only, but they can't even find the skin, let alone get soap down to it...

both of my spoos are 'farm dogs' and have a tendency to pick up burrs quite a bit, so having a long coat isn't an option for me, or they'd be a solid burred mat within hours...

also, my older spoo is also my service dog, so short hair is easier to keep clean for me...

here's a pic of the younger dog... and why i like short hair.

I was going to come back with a wise crack like I don't like yacking up the fur balls...but..*fter further reading this is not the time for a funny ha ha!

It drives me nuts to see neglect like that. I know a persian who is in rough shape right now cause the owner does not want to pay for vaccines to go to the groomer. And this cat is nasty so he needs to me medicated while being groomed

is he a standard size or small. what color, how is his temperament ?

I have been having recurring dreams about a standard size poodle/doodle since my weim passed away. I am looking for one that will make a good visitation dog for nursing homes.
BTW in the dream the dog's name is Dashell Hammit

I have no choice but to groom my maltese. He is pretty curly for the breed, but he just loves to go roll around in the goat pen. So he gets bathed A LOT!!!!

I cannot imagine a mat so bad that the leg is stuck to the belly
