I have a red frizzle bantam, Twinkie, that will be one month old on April 6th and ever since 3 days ago I noticed that it had only 1 nostril and when it slept it kept on opening her beak gasping for air. But since today, I see both nostrils... Anyway, it has a little bit of a runny nose and is still breathing noisily. This is my FAVORITE chick of the 3, we have bonded so much and I couldn't bare to lose her!!!

She always was the most hyper, energetic, athletic one and since about 3 days ago she is almost always sleeping and when awake, is eating very slowly and a little amount or drinking. She still has some energy she could run or fly, but is just overly tired. I read that yogurt has good probiotics for their digestive system so I got some vanilla activia probiotic yogurt, and about every 30 minutes I dab some on her beak so she'll lick it. I really hope that helps, cause each day she's getting slower and sicker! I plan to go to my 4H poultry leader and maybe she could help but I need your help too!!! PLEASE tell me what illness this is and what I could do to help! THANK YOU!!!!

Is the chick over heated? They don't need as much heat as they get older, will pant and sleep and get dehydrated. Start sav-a-chick electrolytes. What's her poop look like?

THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING!!! I don't think she is over-heated, I took her and the others outside in the sun for fresh air, and she seemed cold- she came back to me and crawled in my hair and was shivering so I put them back in her brooder with the heat lamp. The other 2 are very healthy and energetic, so Twinkie must have an illness. Their brooder is in my room, I have my window open for fresh air and their heat lamp above them about a foot 1/2 cause they were getting too hot. I saw her poop and it looked quite normal- not runny, brownish-green with white. I could get some sav-a-chick electrolytes, what is it?

Is the chick still alive? I had a bout if coccidiosis with some chicks recently which is why I asked about poop. Hope she's ok now.

Oh, yeah she's doing great! My 4H leader gave us some Polyvisol, which are just infant drops with lots of vitamins and nutrients. I gave her about 5 sips a day and she was energetic and healthy in no time!
