I got home this afternoon and my silkie girl is acting really strange. She's all puffed up and just standing on my patio. She keeps turning her head to the side almost like she's falling asleep. I don't hear any rattling or wheezing, but her beak STINKS like something dead. I have tylan 50 injectable, but I don't know how to give a shot and am really not sure if she needs it. I put some yogurt down and all the other chickens ran to it as usual...she acted like it wasn't even there. I have some ACV but it's just the heinz kind not organic. I think I've read on here that I can put the tylan in water...is that true? If so, how much do I put? She's still outside but I'm gonna go get her and bring her in as soon as ya'll tell me what to do. Please help!!! She's my favorite and I really don't know what to do. The last time one of my silkies acted like this, I caught it to late and she died. I really don't want to lose this girl.

Anybody???? I just brought her inside and put her in the bathtub. I scrambled an egg and put some of her feed in there. I got a little dish of yogurt. I checked her crop..seems fine. Not eggbound. I'm leaning towards respiratory issue...what do I do??

I feel your pain... I really hope someone helps you!!! HELP PEOPLE!!!!

I'm not sure whats wrong with her, but I have a friend who has had something like this with her birds.
She uses Sulmet. it's at your feed store and is an antiseptic... it has 100 uses.
You could try that in her drinking water.
Make sure she is kept warm and dry and if she's not drinking, you can use a dropper to get her to drink.

You said this happened with another silkie before? how long ago and how long till it died?

I hope this helps.

last summer..she was about 3 months old

Any blood in the poop?
Snotty nose?
Anything besides the stinky beak, poofy feathers and not acting right?
Have you checked inside her mouth?
Does she free range and could she have gotten into something she shouldn't have?

no drainage from her nose........she keeps turning her head to the side like she's falling asleep, she catches herself and straightens up, haven't seen her poop. doesn't want to eat even yogurt from my finger. I put some Vetx on her beak. She does free range but it's in my fenced in backyard, nothing to get into. forgive my grammar, too worried to worry about that right now..

Check her crop, is it water filled? That and the smell suggest sour crop in which case the Sulmet is a good choice for treatment. Give her a light to hunker under for warmth.

from what i can tell, it's a little "crunchy sounding..the smell is horrible like she got into something that died..feed stores are all closed, it's almost 7pm here, what else can I do?

Take a deep breath and try to think of anything else the two birds have in common or what else you haven't noticed yet.

You can check this site to see if you can narrow it down from there.
