Thought I'd give an update in case someone trying to sex their chicks happens upon this post. "Apple" the one on the shoulder, turned out to be a red sex link pullet. The 2 black ones in the kiddie pool - both roos. The one with the white dot on the head was a black sex link roo, the black with white chest was some really cool looking mutt but a boy all the same so he too went to the auction (but brought in the most money of all my roos).

That must have been great for your daughter. Does she still love her as much as she did as a chick?

Unfortunately my kids' interest in the chicks was lost when the chicks lost their chick cuteness. Apple is still her favorite, but except to toss leaves or vegetables through the wire of the chicken's outdoor run, my kids don't have any interest in the chickens. The kids are only 2 and 4, I'm hoping that as they get older they will become more involved.
