Please Help/advice-found my girl hanging upside down, think her leg is broken

Splint sounds really good. Also really good advice to get her weight. Start her on antibiotics ASAP if her foot/ leg is red and swollen still. Heat in the leg/ foot is also a sign of infection. Great that she drank but make sure she continues to drink - she needs to take fluids roughly every 2 hours during the day.

Tlc is the best medicine :) my little hen sleeps quite a bit and falls asleep regularly on my knee. I think it's part of the body healing and I'd like to think she's content too ;)
She took 6 steps today and we are into week 4 so it can take a long while.
It's rotten for them at this time of year if they are unwell - it's not like there are many days where you can sit outside with them and sunshine is off the menu in the uk at the moment :/
Hope she improves - sounds like you're doing everything you can xx

As long as the road is to recovery and not decline, I am good with that. All the Ag supply had was Duramycin-10 antibiotic good for livestock and poultry. The guy said it was the same thing. So I guess OK? I have it in her drinking water, and she is drinking like a camel. But not every 2 hrs, I will see if she is interested. Her gut or something is making a noise when she drinks. Don't know if that is because she is not eating enough or what. She has slowed down eating and has the squirts. Her poop is watery with a little greens. I will try to get her weighed today and start on that.
Kathy, what is going on with yours? Shabana, how can you tell if its just dislocated and not broken?

My chick makes gurgley noises sometimes when she's drinking I think that's normal.
I'm not certain but I think bright green poop could mean not enough nutrients - someone else might be able to give more info on that. Maybe the antibiotic too.
I gave mine antibiotic for 7 days and she was a bit runny during that time but manageable and better than possible infection.

When I checked my hens leg I checked one legs movement against the other like play in the joint, movement in the hips etc and felt for grinding or crunchiness (eew). It all seemed to move like the other leg and she didn't display any signs if pain, but then they try to hide that. Her ankle seemed to be the bit she held funny and didn't sit on so I think that was her problem. Her knee was swollen but moved properly. It was just observation really and my best guess to be honest.
Let's hope her eating improves a bit now she's got the antibiotics.
Hope your hen is ok Kathy poor love.
Xx

I haven't given her eggs yet as I didn't want to create egg eating behavior, so I might hold off on that. I have added fresh corn kernels, apple. and kale which she has been eating the last 2 days. She is eating more mealy worms (when I hold them feeding her one at a time wiggling them ). Yesterday I had 2 spiders came out of hiding, so she got some fresh protein. So I put her worms in front of her so she good do like she does out side. Today she is feeding herself. YEA! We checked her leg yesterday for the swelling, color, feel. The swelling and color have improved substantially, and her foot feels the same temp as the other, so the meds must be working. Haven't had a way to weigh her yet as my scale is the digital foot sensor kind. As far as inspection of her leg I didn't move it too much as it hurt her. We have checked for tenderness/swelling/irritation above the splint closer to her body and didn't find any problems. I think I will try to get her to eat some plain yogurt, she wouldn't touch the fruity kind. She is standing more (on one foot) and getting more active like flapping her wings making a huge mess of feathers and pine shavings. But I am not complaining, it's a good sign. Hope your little one is doing better also, Kathy. Will keep posted~Thanks everyone~Cindy

Thanks for the update! You wouldn't believe it, but the very next day I had another one do the same thing, but good news, I just let both of them out of the crate and neither one is limping!

Good to hear everyone's got positive things happening :D

Just keep on going !! If the break is a break and not a fracture it can take several weeks. I have been going 4/5 weeks now with pudding and she's really using her leg more and more. I think another week maybe two and I will try to ease her back into a flock :)
She was easily 3 weeks before she bore any proper weight on it .
She will know you are helping her and a bond will form. It's quite touching and extremely rewarding.

Let us know how she goes on xx

Good to hear yours is doing better Kathy; so yours had a dislocated leg? And yours has a break Shabana? I am sorry for getting the two of you mixed up. Anyway Red is still up and down with her appetite. Got some plain yogurt last night but the little bugger wouldn't touch it. I 'll try again today. Thanks, will keep posted.
