please help again

i'm using a water heater thermastat. thea temps. are starting to get better but still not right. i also am afraid to leave them for very long cause of my temps going haywire. i've had my eggs in since sunday and had so very high temps and low temps. now i'm trying to figure out when i should candle my eggs to see if any are any good. i am seeing so improvement in my temps.

It is very true that the temps swing way too far both ways with the hot water heater thermostat. I've been on the internet hours a day trying to find a substitute. So far, this looks like the best best:

FEATURES:

In-line thermostat
UL Listed
CSA Certified
13 Amps @ 125 VAC Res.
Temperature range -10° to 100° F

A custom designed Thermostat for automatic control of Line Voltage Systems.
The bimetal sensing element provides accurate control for Heating Systems. Snap-Action dust proof contact assures closer temperature control and longer life without radio and television interference.
This Thermostat is easy to install and is an approved surface mounted control.
Great for pets! Keep your cage at just the right temperature with this affordable in-line thermostat. The thermostat will turn your heating element on and off to adjust to your setting. An excellent addition to help control your pet's environment.

Of course the thermostat has to go INSIDE your bator. YOur light plugs into the thermostat...like the dimmer extension cords. This one only goes to 100 degrees so it can't get too hot for our purposes. I think I'm going to order one. HomeDepot also has one called a "ductstat" that is almost like it but it is larger...but also cheaper. Unfortunately, you have to order it from HomeDepot online...they don't carry it in the store.

i'm still wondering if i'm gonna have any to survive this or not. i just don't know what i did wrong? seems like everybody else has had a good luck with this homemade incubator but it just doesn't work for me. i went and bought a little giant still air but not really happy with it either. maybe i'm just to picky. oh well gonna keep trying untill i get something figured out.

dbrberry...I have had wild swings as I mentioned previously but when candling at day 12 I had "kicking" embryos in all eggs. Don't give up hope yet. Be sure you have enough ventilation holes...that can help stablize the temps some too. Good luck

Same here- I have a homemade bator and mine swung like crazy the first few days! But I now have 4 kicking embryos so that's pretty good. and mine went all the way to 106 for a couple of hours, during the night. I do have a dimmer, which helps I think, but it's very touchy. It still swings a bit, about 5 degrees but so far, so good.

that makes me feel way better. i have now taken out my air temp thermometer. i'm just gonna focuse on my egg temp. was this a good idea or not. if i have an egg temp why do i need the air temp? also is 100 way to high for an egg temp. it is bouncing from 88 to 100 and so far that is the closest i've been able to get it

I think that egg temp is fine. Watching all the thermometers/hygrometers can make you crazy. I have 4 thermometers and 2 hygrometers in ONE bator. Too much, I think!! Please keep us posted and I'll do the same. I'm on day 12 today!!!
