Please help an old guy figure out this techincal stuff

OK How come sometimes the smiley icon things don't apear? and How do you do the quote thing right? Help

Just hit the "quote" button in the lower right hand corner of someone's post instead of hitting "post reply"

OK While we're getting all this stuff cleared up. How come my computer sometimes doesn't show the little smiley icons moving and sometimes it does? Is there a way to turn them on?
