Please help - Approx 6 month Hen off her legs with curled toes

GREAT, glad to hear that the Vitamin b is slowly working, hopefully the recover will continue. Did you guys decide to make a boot at all? For those who have curled toes?

I made a boot but because she holds her foot upside down and she WONT bend it at the ankle if that makes sense that the boot was more a hindrance than a cure. It is a handy thing to know how to make though.

Bump has not really noticeably improved... She has drunk all of the vit. B water though Should I give her another one?

Send me a picture? upside down??? I can't picture it? Is there any growths on the leg?

I wasn't notified of all these new posts!! Sickie chickie has made no further improvements my end - she still stands up though so I am sticking with it! I am over half way through the vitamin B pack now!!! :-O I upped the dosage to 3 tablets hahaha! I think alot of it gets stuck to the bottom of the drinker so I keep shaking it about. Certainly doesn't seem to be doing any harm anyway. We are wondering if she has started laying again as we keep finding pale eggs (we only have Marans) randomly about the garden not in the nesting box!! When she became poorly she laid some really rubbery pale eggs - these are certainly not rubbery but obviously we can't be sure if they are from her. I didn't try making a boot my partner felt it wouldn't be beneficial for an adult chicken? She stands ok but as soon as she walks she bends the whole foot under at her 'wrists' if this makes sense! COME ON SICKIE CHICKIE!!!!!

Why are you upping the dosage? It's not going to speed up the process?? Your giving her WAY to much if you are giving her 3 tablets, your just wasting it. Like I had described it will take a before you see results. If she is laying pale eggs, you need to get some oyster shells for her, she needs some calcium.

I don't understand the increase in the dosage! Alls your doing by increasing the dosage is making her kidney's work more. Your partner is wrong about the boot, if she has curled toes, the boot will help her with balance cordination wether its a young chick or an adult but It doesn't sound like your chicken has curled toes.

Is her toes flat when she stands? If so then a boot would not be necessary. I got the impression that her toes was making a fist, if this is so then yes she would have curled toes and a boot would help with walking. I think a description of exactly what is going on would be best because I'm not getting a pic of this "bends the foot under at wrist?

No she didn't die - she ran off!!

I upped the dosage for a few reasons - firstly I don't believe anyone responded when I asked how many tablets to give her so I had no idea - I know the other member giving vit B to Bump was using one tablet - his chicken was not showing much sign of recovery either so I thought maybe we were giving too little. Also as I said above most of the tablet gets stuck to the bottom of the drinker so I don't think she is actually consuming very much, and also I am sure someone said on here it would take about a week and it has been best part of 2 already now so I also thought maybe I wasn't giving her enough due to this. I am disolving 3 in a much bigger quantity of water than I was 1 tablet. She's been on oyster shell / grit for a long while now as have the others. Not sure who is laying the pale eggs - think we have a reject Marans! Can't describe what's going on as we have no idea!! She stands with toes straight, when u pick her up she stretches them out straight - when u put your finger under her foot she grips it likes she's perching but she just can't walk properly! It must have been over 2 months now so I get the impression she will never be right. She gets herself up the stairs at night but she never tries to come out in the morning - maybe she knows I am going to lift her out the nesting box! She was perched on the coop moving handle the other day so she can get about pretty well! I will try and get some photos of her trying to walk if it helps!
