Please help baby chicks

Quote:
If you watch some of it you would have noticed that there is a tail sticking out from the snakes mouth. This is because he shoved the baby chick down the snakes throat along with a rat

I noticed the rat tail sticking out too... It is clear that the snake will eat rats, so why don't they feed it a rat instead of a chick?

i mentioned it elsewhere before. But not all snakes will eat prekilled prey. Some ,espc. the wildcaught snakes will insist on live prey. And some species will not eat mice by nature , they need to eat birds.... i prefered to feed prekilled , it is a safety issue. You dont want your 1000$+ snake to get hurt. But if you need to get your snakes ready for breeding and it wont eat f/t you have to feed the other way.
But there are always exceptions to the rule.

ETA

Normally a snake will kill before eating. Feeding two pieces of food is not unheard of. I only had it happen twice that they did not kill all the way. It usuall happens with baby corns.

Yes, our python always killed it before he ate it. we actually enjoyed watching him eat, especially the first few times. It was VERY interesting, and yes, educational.

There is nothing sick about feeding a carnivoure (Ic ant spell this morning) meat. A chick is no different then a mouse. Cuter, yes, but meat is meat! Of course, our culture has led us to feel some animals are more 'human' then others.

I know a man who raises bunnies and they sell a lot of them as snake food. Why is that any worse then a mouse? Its not, but I know a lady who freacked about it.

I diddnt watch the video, but I know that I learned a LOT from our snake. Just because someone video tapes something does not mean they are a sick person, IMO. It would not be sick to see it recorded on Animal Planet, if it was a wild snake. No difference.

A chick, when it is grown, is able to provide people with great tasting food. Weather it is in the form of eggs or meat, when it is grown up, it can be very useful, and can provide a source of extra pocket money.

What she said is very true. A mouse just provides people with little droppings on your dishes.

Sorry if I offended someone, I never meant too.

I am just not very sensitive about matters of life. I guess one of my faults is I am overly pragmatic.

While I do not like snakes in the least, people who have them as pets know they too must eat.

I do not see videoing the snake eating is sick, it is a very visual in your face lesson on the food chain.

Society today has groomed many to believe that any type of animal is a pet and it is sick or cruel to kill and/or eat anything seen by another as a pet.

My daughter USED to be one that went to pieces over the death of any animal, that was a product of her being raised in the city. 2yrs ago we moved to the country and slowly started adding different animals to our "farm"

Now both of my children understand and respect that dogs and cats are pets. The rabbits, goats, chickens, and cow are FOOD. When they do name one of the outside animals they give it a food name so they can remember it is being raised for food and is not a pet. They named the calf T-Bone.

My daughter also assists in butchering the smaller animals ( rabbits and chickens), she does this by choice and I allow her. My children are learning where their food comes from and years from now when it is my time I will be able to leave this earth in peace knowing that regardless of what life throws at my kids they will never go hungry. They will have the knowledge, strength and ability to raise their own food.

I realize that my way of thinking may be unpopular to some, however, I feel the life lessons my children learn here on the "farm" will serve them long after the book lessons are forgotten.
