I got my first chicks about a month ago and really enjoy all of them. Bertha here is my favorite though and she is so much bigger and more aggressive than the others I'm concerned she might be a rooster. What do y'all think? Also I was told she was a barred rock. Does that sound right? Thank you very much.

Not Barred Rock, try an Andalusian....who ever told you this chicken was a BR was very wrong...

This is a Barred Rock Hen.

I am guessing at 4 weeks, it very well may be a pullet, but the head of the flock...pecking order and all, she has made herself boss. I am not familiar with Andalusians, maybe someone who is knows more about gender at this early age. Try posting a standing, profile shot for us, so we can see the legs and feathering....

You got it a month ago, but how old were your chicks when you got them? That looks older than four/five weeks, but if that actually is their age, then I'm leaning towards male, not because of behaviour - that can be very deceiving - but more because of how thick those legs are and the amount of wattle growth...

Resembles a blue Orpington!

She was four or five weeks old when I got her, so she's 8 or 9 weeks old now. Thanks for the responses.

Looks like a Blue Orpington to me. "Her" wattles make me think rooster, but the comb itself isn't that big. Could you post a side-profile photo of her standing?
