PLEASE HELP cats using my garden for their toilet!!!!!!!!!

I know it's nasty to clean up. I have cats and think it's nasty too. But try to not turn into one of those people who kill the neighbor's pets. I have almost completely wonderful neighbors, but one house has people that put out poison for any and all animals. I'm kinda wishing someone would poison them.
You've gotten some good suggestions so far. Have you tried any? I've done the chicken wire covering the ground with success.

And the one big truth- If you get rid of one cat others will show up and they'll be warier and smarter, and much more difficult to live with.

Imp- made peace with cat poop.

However much I dislike the clean up I would not resort to killing them. I was thinking more along the lines of throwing things at them, or seriously insulting them, but unfortunately they are gone before I have the chance and most of the offences occur at night.

Yes, you are right, I have got some very good ideas and thank everyone who has provided one as well as those who have told their story.

I have been away for a few days so I plan to clean up the cat "tootie rolls" and try each one of the suggestions I have received, one at a time so I can see which works best for my yard.

I'm so glad to hear that. I've been a little annoyed at my psycho neighbors recently. An abandoned cat that lives in the neighborhood disappeared about 5 days ago. I was pretty sure they had caught it and killed it. (There has been about 12 pets poisoned in the last couple years. We know who, but can't prove it) The cat has lived in the neighborhood for about 10 years now and is a very nice cat. He can't move inside because he sprays. Well Zulu showed up at my back door this morning Yay! Must have been living down the street with his cousin Peaches.

Imp-When I was searching for Zulu I found a trap. Since there was no name on it and being the good neighbor I am. I picked it up and disposed of it. I really hope traps are expensive.

BB guns... we had a tom show up (he belonged to the neighbors) and it kept attacking my barn cats including the spayed females. DH would go out and shoot it with a bb gun. This did a really good job of making the cat run when it saw us but thats about it. So when we decided to take care of the offending cat for good (the neighbor knew we were going to shoot it and just said it would save him the trouble), it was really hard to do because the cat didn't stick around when it saw us. We ended up having to trap it to get rid of it. We hate having to shoot a cat, but hate the endless trips to the vet for our cats with injuries and abscesses even more.

I've heard this works too but not sure why.

Our neighbours cats seemed to think our yard and the wild birds were theirs too. The neighbours attitude was that "cats roam and are natural hunters". As we like the birds and dislike the cat "tootsie rolls" we scared it out of the yard (just by yelling @ it and chasing it away) every chance we had. It minimised the cat's visits within a few weeks but getting a dog did the real trick!

I'm told that lion or tiger poo from your local safari park or zoo will scare all other cats away from your garden/yard if you spread it around the boundaries - it's like they think "woah! this place is territory to a cat that's tooooo big for me to deal with!" and don't come there...

(I'm like the angel of death to plants, so I don't try to grow any and have no personal experience of this to back it up)

<------ is wiping tea from her computer screen... I had an image of sneaking into the cage... here kitty kitty kitty...

Moth balls - no you don't have to catch a bunch of moths and pull their little.... The kind like grandma kept with the winter clothes. The smell seems to be very offensive to cats and will deter them. I have an indoor cat, neutered and when we have the windows open the neighbor's cat will come over and spray. Awful smell right by my front door so I broke up a few and sprinkle them along the walkway and he doesn't come over any more.

When I was a kid, a neighbor had that exact problem at their front door. The cat was marking the screen itself. In those days, screens were made of copper. Neighbor put a piece of new copper screen on porch in front of door and took an old drop cord. He skinned it and attached one lead to the piece on the wooden porch deck, and the other half to the front door screen, then plugged it in one night. They heard a loud screech and that cat was never seen again. True story.
