This is a 3 day old bantam crosses breed. I went outside to find this chick on her back. Her skull is showing what should I do, how do I fix this?

Yes the a other broody hens, 4 counting her mom and about 40 chicks. Age range 1 week to 3 days old. I had this happen to 2 others that just hatched. They lost too much blood and died. I have the incubator heating up right now is that what I should put her in. Thank you!Is their other hens or roosters in coop? All i can suggest is bring her inside clean the wound put some prebiotics in water keep her warm u have a heat lamp? Im sure others be able to give u better advice sorry this has happened![]()

Sorry that you lost a couple.Yes the a other broody hens, 4 counting her mom and about 40 chicks. Age range 1 week to 3 days old. I had this happen to 2 others that just hatched. Her mom is brooding her outside with 3 other moms. I’m pretty sure I know who it was. She has her eyes open now and is peeping and moving around a little bit. This chicky being raised by a broody or are you brooding them outside? Supportive care and keeping the wound clean, while the wound heals by second intention. Is it otherwise normal, albeit shocky, or is it acting like it has neurological deficits or other issues?
bring it in and keep it in, small brooder by itself for now with a heat source - watch it closely if it’s not moving around on its own though, or it may get overheated. Can rinse the wound with saline if necessary, spray with vetericyn if you have or apply neosporin, if you don’t have, let us know what you have available to you to use.
a little water with electrolytes added or nutri drench, rooster booster, etc is a good place to start as well to combat the shock.
the good news is that chickens can recover from some pretty horrific things, but a bit more info on her mentation and movements may help. Any chance of getting additional picture angles on that wound to see the extent of it?
can you separate out family groups or are they all caring for all of them? Hard to know what happened or who is doing the damage...
if she is outside put her inside with a heat lamp. you don’t want flies getting to her. They will cause an infection. Since she is a chick, you can’t get her wet so take a Q-Tip and getting it wet and dab it lightly on the spot. Later when it isn’t a really big gaping hole use VetRx and put some around it to help it heal. I had the same thing happen but to my Quail. This is a 3 day old bantam crosses breed.
