I have an Indian runner with a bowel blockage - can anyone help with a home treatment?. It’s been blocked for about 7 days. The emergency vet didn’t palpate her and gave her antibiotics which for 5 days has done nothing. We just came from a second vet who felt her abdomen and could feel a lump in her abdomen which she thought could be a bowel compaction but suggested taking her to the bird vet which does not open until 4th and consultation and X-ray to confirm the diagnosis are likely to cost us about $450 and then treatment costs on top of that which has become unaffordable since we have already consulted 2 vets. Has anyone successfully treated a bowel blockage here?

currently she is taking pain killers and antibiotics to continue. We also are giving her vitamins in her water. She will eat peas but nothing else.

Some more information about your duck would be helpful. Is she producing poops, if yes, could you post pictures? Is she drinking much? What does her main diet consist of? Do you have a picture of the duck?

If you believe she has an impaction somewhere in her GI tract, that would warrant the administration of a stool softener such as Dulcolax, or an oil-type product to help loosen up any compacted material. Olive oil, mineral oil, or coconut oil would work, but would best be put in her feed, as administering oils orally can often harmful to the bird. If the bird is not eating consider cooling the coconut oil, and pushing some in her mouth, or using the Dulcolax orally. That process may or may not work; sometimes a surgical resolution is the only option.

hello I think I may have a similar situation with my 10-year-old bantam hen momma! it's been about a month and a half now that she has been showing signs of gastrointestinal issues. I gave her treat seed for 14 days in a row at night to try and help keep her warmer after she lost her life partner of 10 years Mr rooster and with sleeping alone in a crate. then she got put on a 21 day course of antibiotics for her respiratory infection and she's doing much better with that now but I've been hearing these gurgles / squeaks coming out of her when she eats and drinks for the past month and a half now and I tried coconut oil massages, I tried the lemon Cayenne spice mix treatment that I found on a different article on here, I tried acidified copper sulfate, and now as of about four or so days ago I found a lump or two in her abdomen to the left of her keel, right behind her left leg, between back left leg and abdomen but closer to her back left leg. I'm wondering if this could be a possible partial impaction of her small intestine because she is stilleating/drinking and moving her poop but I'm hearing these sounds and found these lumps now. she has also been tanking up on wood shavings and eating a lot of them for the past month or so as well but I put down cardboard and such in her daytime area so that she can't eat them anymore about a week and a half ago and then about a week ago I put a fabric place matt down in her nightime crate cause I realized she was eating them in there too!i'm curious what I can do to help soften the possible partial impaction and help it to move/clear out? I read you can give Epsom salt in water, I've read you can give molasses in water, now I'm seeing this potential stool softener as an option. I would prefer to be able to put whatever I give her either in her regular water for drinking or into her mash for eating cuz I do not want to risk possibly aspirating her by orally feeding it to her and I don't feel comfortable asking my friend to help hold her while I do this since he's already helping me with my other hen and her meds nightly right now. any help is very much appreciated, thank you so much ❣️
