search "prolapse" here, you will find much good advice.

first thing is to separate her from all other chickens so they don't peck at the prolapse.

good luck,

Pat

Her vent has come out alittle, what is called prolapsed...what you need to do is bring her inside, clean the vent area..get a hemorrhoid cream like Prep H or mineral oil and gently try pushing the vent back into place...keep her quiet and in a dark place like a pet carrier with food and water..Thats to try making her not want to lay an egg for awhile if kept in a dark place..my thoughts....

>You need to flush the area first with sterile saline
(boil up 1/4 tsp salt in a quart of water for five minutes and use a sterile suirt bottle to apply a bit of pressure to the flushing of the tissues)

>Use a lubricating gel like KYgel and then gently push all back in

>smear Prep H copiously around the vent and inside rim after replacing the tissue inside.

>place the bird in a CLEAN box on a dry towel in a warm dark area and remember there might be another egg that had back up come out so the procedure above may need to be repeated.

Keep the bird in the darkened room and when sufficiently recovered reintroduce outside slowly (bring her in at nite if the temps are really cold) as she will need to get used to the temp difference again.
